Sweetwaterâs Major League Dâbacks are celebrating after defeating the Snyder Braves 9-7 at their District 5 tournament this week. The team also beat the Jim Ned Rangers in their next game to reach the quarterfinals before losing to Abilene Dixieâs Mets, 5-4, at Abilene Northern on Thursday.

For many children, the rural neighborhood, small town, or ranch is a home, a playground and a place where they do chores. Teaching them to take some of the responsibility for their own safety at home and in their neighborhoods is the subject of the eighth bi-annual Big Country Progressive Agriculture Safety Day, which will be held June 22, 2012, at the Big Country Hall located on grounds of the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.
The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce held its monthly Chamber Coffee at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Advantage Office Products, located at 1116 E. Broadway.
Advantage Office Products is owned by Advantage Office Products, LLC, with Erin Gomez as the store's manager. Advantage is a full service office supply and furniture store.
The store was founded in May of 2005 by Stewart Spencer and Dennis George and serves Nolan and surrounding counties. Advantage opened in May of 2006 in Sweetwater and is the second Advantage Office Products store to open.
Two entered guilty pleas during 32nd Judicial District Court on Tuesday, June 5, 2012. The cases were prosecuted by District Attorney Ann Reed and Assistant District Attorney Barrett Thomas. Judge Glen Harrison presided over the cases.
Malcom Xavier Black, with attorney, Jacob Blizzard, pled guilty to prohibited substance in a correctional facility, a third degree felony. For his plea, Black received three years of community supervision and will have to pay a $2,000 fine, $309 in court costs and $500 in attorney's fees. He will also have to serve 160 hours of community service.
The Sweetwater High School Band was recognized during the May SISD school board meeting for earning the coveted Sweepstakes ranking during the 2011-12 school year.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 49 calls for service, issued eight citations and made three arrests on June 5, 2012.
The SPD received 27, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 12 calls for service, served two civil papers and made no arrests on June 5, 2012.

Cancer Services Network (CSN) plans to broadcast CancerCareâs ConnectÂŽ Workshop Part III of Cancer Survivorship: Living With, Though, and Beyond Cancer. This workshop entitled Changing Roles and Responsibilities for Caregivers is scheduled on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, from noon to 1:30 p.m. This session is for cancer survivors, their families and friends. Information will be shared to help them cope with concerns that arise after treatment.
The Nolan County Foundation recently donated $5,000 to the City of Sweetwater Senior Nutritional Activities Program (SNAP). The funds are to be matched by the City of Sweetwater and will be used to purchase fixtures and other items needed by SNAP. The congregate program is temporarily occupied in the Trail of Lights building across the parking lot from the old structure.
The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department welcomes âBuzzy the Beeâ to the staff. Buzzy will help promote the health department's immunization program. Children will have an opportunity to meet him during Immunization Fun Days this summer.
SNCHD will be at the library on Wednesday, June 13 at 10 a.m. to do story time for Kindergarten through third grade children.
