For three quarters, Sweet-water looked like anything but an underdog Friday in its District 4-3A showdown with the Monahans Loboes, piling up a 35-14 advantage that could probably have been even larger.
But the Mustangs’ dream of taking a giant step tow-ard their first playoff berth in four years took a drastic turn in the fourth quarter and resulted in a nightmar-ish finish at Mustang Bowl.
Instead of a Sweetwater blowout, Monahans rose up to score 25 unanswered points and leave the Bowl with a stunning 39-35 win, clinching a postseason spot for the Loboes (5-4 overall, 3-1 in 4-3A).
Blackwell got into the win column in District 8, Division II Six-Man football for the first time Friday, but Nolan County’s other two area schools were on the short end of onesided losses.

BLACKWELL — In its final home game of the year, Blackwell needed just one half to win by the 45-point mercy rule while improving to 1-1 in district and 4-5 for the season.

Most people in their early 20s are still trying to figure out their plans for life, but at 24 years old, one Sweetwater High School alumni seems to have it successfully figured out.
Adrian Solano, a 2006 graduate of SHS, became the general manager at the local Hampton Inn a little over six months ago.
