The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 31 calls for service, issued six citations and made two arrests on March 6, 2012.
The SPD received 21, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had seven calls for service, served no civil papers and made two arrests on March 6, 2012.

Willie Ruth (Bahlman) Teague ended her 91-year earthly journey and was promoted to glory on March 7, 2012. She passed away in Duncan, Okla., after a brief illness.
Willie Ruth was born Feb. 16, 1921, in Winters, Runnels County, Texas, to Otto and Lena Bahlman. She was married to Philip E. Teague, her husband of 68 years, in Wilmeth, Texas, on Dec. 19, 1943. The family moved to Sweetwater, Texas, in 1948, where they lived south of the city until 2010 when they moved to Oklahoma to be near their son.
Sweetwater, TX â Glenn Franklin McCullough, 90, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2012, in Lubbock Covenant Hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Reverend James Baker officiating. Interment will follow at the Garden of Memories in Sweetwater under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. A family visitation will be held one hour before service time on Saturday.
Martha âJoâ Chiofalo went to join the Lord on March 7, 2012, after passing away in Sweetwater, TX. She was born in Nolan County, TX, on Oct. 14, 1924, and graduated from Roscoe High School in 1941. She was married to Lawrence Chiofalo on March 11, 1967, in Connecticut. Mr. Chiofalo was a war hero, having survived the Pearl Harbor attack, helping numerous fellow servicemen to safety. Mr. Chiofalo previously predeceased Mrs. Chiofalo in death.
Sweetwater won three of its four softball games at the Big Spring tournament this past weekend, and is now 9-5 overall heading into the teamâs final two pre-district contests this weekend.
First-year coach Bobby Williamsâ squad started out bracket play at Big Spring by shutting out Levelland 9-0 and Forsan 10-0, then beat Lamesa 8-5 before losing to Odessa High 5-1 and then falling to Hawley, 5-4, in the championship game of the Silver Bracket.
These 14 Sweetwater High School boys will compete in the Region I, Division 2 powerlifting meet this Friday in Sundown. This weekend the Sweetwater Jaycees Worldâs Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up will be back in full force. The biggest event that West Texas and the world knows doesnât come together without preparation. Meetings about the Rattlesnake Round-Up took place nearing the event to discuss parking, tours and other aspects that need to be addressed.
Sweetwater High School's DECA, a competitive business and marketing organization, chapter recently attended the state competition conference in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Two teams, consisting of four students, have advanced to the international competition in Salt Lake City, Utah. ICDC, (International Career Development Conference), invites qualifying students from all 50 states, several American territories, and a number of Canadian territories to attend the conference to compete, attend leadership conferences and earn scholarships.
The internationally acclaimed U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors of Washington, D.C., will continue its long history of presenting free public performances when it appears at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium on Monday night, April 2, 2012 at 7 p.m. The Jazz Ambassadorsâ concert in Sweetwater is sponsored by the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce.
The Sweetwater Professional Firefighters Association (SPFA) is selling t-shirts to raise money for the purchase of wild land gear for Sweetwater firefighters in the event of more wildfires. Last year, the White Hat Fire in southern Nolan County burned more than 80,000 acres. The equipment the SPFA is looking into purchasing will help immensely if there is a repeat of last summer.
