The Sweetwater varsity volleyball teamâ€™s extended road swing â€” which contin-ues today at Seminole with a dual match against both Frenship and Seminole â€” has been productive so far.
The Lady Mustangs are 6-4 overall after defeating 5A Abilene Cooper 25-12, 25-22, 25-20 in Abilene on Thursday and then placing second in the Silver Bracket of Canyon Randallâ€™s two-day tournament.
Sweetwaterâ€™s freshman volleyball team went 4-0 to win the Sweetwater tourn-ament. Sweetwater defeated Southwest Christian 25-17, 25-15; Snyder 26-24, 20-25, 25-16; Big Spring 17-25, 25-12, 25-23; and Post 25-10, 25-13 in claiming the championship.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 119 calls for service, issued six citations and made eight arrests from Aug. 17-19, 2012.
The SPD received 67, 911 calls.

The Texas AgriLife Extension Serviceâ€™s annual Silver Clover Recognition Banquet celebrated its 45th year on Aug. 9, at Zentners Daughter Steak House in San Angelo.
Sweetwater Independent School District students will get a chance to meet their teachers this week. The following is a schedule of meet the teacher events for Sweetwater ISD.
â€˘ J.P. Cowen Early Childhood Center will be having their Meet the Teacher from 5-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21.
â€˘ Sweetwater Middle School will be having their Meet the Teacher from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21.
â€˘ Southeast Elementary School (Kindergarten and first grade) will be having their Meet the Teacher from 5-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22.

Juanelle Jordan, 2012-2014 president of Gamma Tau Chapter, and other local educators joined more than 1,000 key women educators from throughout the state for the 83rd Annual Convention of the Texas State Organization of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International at the Irving Convention Center in Las Colinas, June 21-23. With over 11,000 members in Texas, the honor society for women educators promotes excellence in education and personal and professional growth of women educators.
The following is the bell schedule for all schools and information for each bus route. The bus route information includes the bus number, driver and morning and afternoon pick up and drop off sequence. All routes will be the same daily. Each driver will designate stops for each route and stick to those stops throughout the school year. The student is responsible for being at the designated stop prior to the arrival of the bus. If the student is not at the designated stop upon the arrival of the bus it may result in the student being left.

The Big Country Wheat Conference, conducted biennially by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service, will be held Aug. 23 in the Big Country Hall located on the Taylor County Exposition Center grounds, 1982 Lytle Way in Abilene.
On-site registration will start at 7:30 a.m. The conference will end at 4 p.m.
