Six Texas rural hospital administrators and two representatives of the Texas Organization of Rural and Community Hospitals visited with 22 legislators from the Texas delegation last week in Washington D.C. to discuss challenges related to providing medical care in rural Texas and the impact of proposed reimbursement cuts in Medicare.
The Nolan County Farm Service Agency (FSA) will have a sign-up for Emergency Conservation Program (ECP) from Oct. 17, 2011 through Nov. 16, 2011.
Producers that had fences damaged or destroyed due to wildfires may be eligible for cost-share assistance to rebuild or repair their fences. ECP payments are subject to FSA eligibility regulations and funding availability.

A graveside service for Wayne V. McDonald, 80, of Sweetwater, will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at Huron Valley Cemetery in Flat Rock, Mich. under the direction of Ford Chapel Funeral Home. Local arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, at Ford Chapel Funeral Home in Rockwood, Michigan.
McDonald died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at his residence in Sweetwater.

Dylon Adames is the Football Player of the Week for Sweetwater. Adames is a 195-pound senior who has been the starting center on the Mustangsâ€™ offensive line the past three years. In last weekâ€™s 28-6 win over Big Spring, he blocked a field goal attempt, had one QB pressure and assisted on one tackle.
Sweetwater got a split de-cision against Big Spring in sub-varsity District 5-3A volleyball action this past Friday at Mustang Gym.
The Sweetwater freshmen beat Big Spring 16-25, 25-21, 25-22 in their match, while Sweetwaterâ€™s junior varsity lost to Big Spring 21-25, 22-25.

The First Responder's Appreciation and Recognition Dinner was held on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex. The dinner honored the Blackwell Volunteer Fire Department, the Lake Sweetwater Volunteer Fire Department, the Maryneal Volunteer Fire Department, the Nolan Volunteer Fire Department, the Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department, the Sweetwater Fire Department, the Nolan County Sheriff's Office, the Sweetwater Police Department and the Roscoe Police Department.
On Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, the Sweetwater High School Marching Band competed in the Big Country Marching Festival in Abilene. For the second straight week, the Mighty Mustang Band came away with straight 1s from all judges.
Due to rain, the event was moved indoors, but Sweetwater was still able to march their show in front of an enthusiastic home crowd which included SHS principal Stacey Jones and many supporters, parents and friends.
