During the local Kiwanis Club meeting held on Wednesday, September 5 at Bee's Lunch Bucket, the group discussed their most recent project while looking ahead to their most popular fundraiser.
At the 2012 Sammy Baugh Classic held at Mustang Bowl, the Kiwanis Club joined forces with Sweetwater ISD (Independent School District), the Sammy Baugh Classic Organizing Committee--a branch of the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce and the Children's Miracle Network, in order to raise money for children receiving medical care at Hendrick Medical Center's new Children's Hospital.
One person pled guilty to Judge Glen Harrison during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012.
Augustine Torres, with attorney John S. Young, pled guilty to engaging in organized criminal activity, a state jail felony. The offense occurred on July 30, 2011. The indictment states that Torres broke into or entered a vehicle without the consent of the owner, with the intent to commit theft.
Graveside services for Hazel May Dunlap, 93, of Colorado City â formerly of Roscoe â will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at Roscoe Cemetery. Rev. Claudine Chaney will officiate and interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Dunlap died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, in Colorado City.
She was born May 25, 1919, in DeQueen, Arkansas. She married J.C. Hobbs on Feb. 2, 1951, in Clovis, New Mexico. Hazel was a homemaker and she was a Baptist.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 60 calls for service, issued three citations and made one arrest on Sept. 4, 2012.
The SPD received 27, 911 calls.

After all the talk about its new spread offense, Sweet-water didnât look all that different from Mustang teams of the past in last Fridayâs 23-13 season-opening win over Eastland.
Of Sweetwaterâs 326 total yards, 291 came by the run as the Mustangs completed just five passes.
Meanwhile, the defense gave up a lot of yards (384) but was scored on by East-landâs offense just once â with 3:34 left in the fourth quarter â even though the Mavericks took a whopping 81 snaps in the contest.

Another âAll Class Reunionâ for Homecoming 2012 is planned for Saturday, Sept. 8, from 2 p.m. to midnight at the Sweetwater High School Cafeteria, according to Linda Kiser Browning Miller, event director.
Jeff Stein of KXOX Radio will be the emcee, and Big Boys BBQ will cater the supper at 5:30 p.m. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. and a short program will be held at 5 p.m. After the barbecue supper, J.B. Cloud of KBCY Radio of Abilene will serve as D.J. for the music and dance beginning at about 7:30 p.m. The D.J. will present music from the 50âs to the present.
Members of the National WASP WWII Museum building committee met recently to discuss the museumâs proposed 8,000 square feet expansion project. Peter Fox, Vice President of Expansion, arranged for KBA Design Architect Bob Kilduff and Project Manager/Board Member Dave Zobrist of ZProjects to review the design details with the building committee. The building committee is comprised of Board President Carol Cain, Board Secretary Sandra Spears, Board V.P. Tom Henderson, Board Treasurer Steven May, Board Past President Bill Johnson, Board Member Alan Carmicheal and Executive Director Sharron Davis.
Sweetwater Animal Control currently has two dogs available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a female Shih Tzu and a female kitten. According to Sweetwaterâs animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.
