Sweetwaterâ€™s Sam Nemir and Ryan Linebaugh finished 1-2 in the 165-pound weight class Friday at the boys Region I, Division II powerlifting meet at Sundown High School.
In doing so, they both qualified for the state meet to be held in Abilene on March 26.
Nemir lifted a total of 1,145 pounds with a 440-pound squat, 260-pound bench press and 445-pound dead lift while Linebaugh had a 430-pound squat, 245-pound bench press and 445-pound dead lift.
Roscoeâ€™s Corey Hatcher will be a state alternate after placing third in the 242-pound class at the boys Region I, Division III powerlifting meet at Sundown High School. Hatcher lifted 1,300 pounds with a 515-pound squat, 285-pound bench press and 500-pound dead lift. Roscoeâ€™s Jose Rangel (985 pounds) was seventh in the 148-pound class while Landon Jones did not place in the 181-pound class.
Willie Herman Hackfeld, age 83, of Sweetwater, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2011, at Sweetwater Healthcare Center.Â

Every year the Sweet-water Jaycees Worldâ€™s Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up brings hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Sweetwater area from all over the globe. This surge of tourism brings with it lots of revenue for the city.
Area hotels are almost always full during the second week in March and restaurants are packed around the clock.
Since 1958, the world's largest rattlesnake round-up has been held in Sweetwater.
If your medicine cabinet hasn't been cleaned out in awhile (or ever), a chance to do so is coming up.
On Saturday, March 19, a Medication Cleanout will be held at the Sweetwater High School. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be done as a drive through.
Medication Cleanout was originated through the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Program with the Amarillo Independent School District and the Texas Panhandle Poison Center with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
Rattlesnake Round-up weekend is full of fun and excitement, which can leave residents a little worn out. The Monday after it may seem a little harder to wake up, but to make matters worse, this weekend is the beginning of daylight saving time.

Doyle Alfred Davis, 76, of Denton, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at Denton Regional Medical Center. He was born on Se. 10, 1934, in Black Land, TX to Dayton Alfred and Clara Lee (Lewellen) Davis. He was married to Judith Reynolds on July 20, 1979, in Temple, TX. He served in the U S Army and was retired from the Santa Fe Railroad and the construction business. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Denton.
