Wanda Sharrock Ingram

Family and friends of Wanda Sharrock Ingram celebrated her life of 77 years on Oct. 27, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Lubbock. She died on Monday, Oct. 24, 2011.
Wanda Nell was born Sept. 11, 1934, in Sweetwater, Texas to Orin Ted and Eavvie Sharrock. She graduated from Crane High School and later earned a Bachelor’s degree from Mary Hardin Baylor College in Belton, Texas. Wanda retired from Texas Utilities in 2000, after serving as a training supervisor for 20 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lubbock.

Turnovers doom Sweetwater as B’wood’s win ends playoff hopes

With less than four min-utes to play in the first half, things were looking good for Sweetwater in Friday’s battle with Brownwood for a district playoff berth at Mustang Bowl.
While the game was tied at 7-7, Sweetwater had the ball and, after forcing a Brownwood punt moments earlier, had the momentum as well. But then things started to go sour for the Mustangs as Brownwood made its decisive run.

Brownwood scored in the first, second and fourth quarters in beat-ing Sweetwater White, which scored on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Kaegan Jeffrey to Martese Harris in the third quarter plus a two-point Jeffrey conversion pass to Duanta Williams. “The kids played tough and gave 100 percent all four quarters,” said coach Jarrett Vickers.

Brownwood and Sweetwater Red were locked in an 8-8 tie at halftime until the host team pulled away over the final two quarters.

The Hornets, a big under-dog to Aspermont, stayed with their hosts from start to finish in a thrilling six-man football game Friday.

Roscoe falls to J’rabbits to stay winless

ROSCOE — The struggles continue for Roscoe’s Plowboys, who saw their record fall to 0-9 after losing to Rawls, 28-7, on Friday.
Roscoe avoided a shutout on a 2-yard run by Eric Padilla with 1:36 left in the game, but by then the Jackrabbits (4-5, 3-1 district) had things well in hand as they clinched a playoff berth in Dist-rict 7-1A, Division II.
But offense has been a problem all year for the Plowboys, who have scored just 55 points and reached double figures in a game just once.

Blackwell defeated at P-Rock

PAINT ROCK — Blackwell was defeated by Paint Rock, 62-12, in a District 8 Six-Man Division II matchup on Friday.
With the win, Paint Rock improved to 2-0 district (7-2 over-all) while dropping Blackwell’s records to 1-1 district, 1-8 season. The Indians are the district’s only unbeaten team and have clinched a playoff berth, while Blackwell must defeat Panther Creek (1-1) at home this Friday to secure a postseason spot.
No individual information was available at press time for Black-well, which was coming off a forfeit victory over Novice in its district opener last week.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 41 calls for service, issued three citations and made no arrests on Oct. 27, 2011.

The SPD received 32, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Information only — 1000 block of Locust.
• Burglary of a habitation — Lakewood.
• Family violence assault — 200 block of W. Florida.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had nine calls for service, served seven civil papers and made one arrest on Oct. 27, 2011.

Arrested by NCSO:
• Jerry DeWitt Washington, Jr., 26, of Sweetwater — Warrants x2/surety withdrawal.

Goodfellows sign up this week

It’s that time of year again and the Sweetwater Goodfellows are getting ready to help needy Nolan County families have a better Christmas. Sweetwater Goodfellows provides food and toys to families in need with children and food to needy individuals during the Christmas Season. Sign ups will be at the Sweetwater Fire Station, 900 E. Broadway, on Nov. 1, 2 and 3, from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. All applicants need to bring last proof of income, approval notice for food stamps, birth certificate for each child, pay stub and approval notice for TANF.
