Crane Services acquires GMK 7550

A local business is welcoming a huge addition in its continued efforts to offer a wide range of services.
Arriving at its central location in Albuquerque, New Mexico in June, Crane Service, Inc. of Sweetwater is introducing the GMK 7550, a 550-ton crane. For the past 51 years, Crane Service has specialized in rigging along with heavy hoisting and hauling to the greater Southwest region of the United States.

TSTC student center going green

Sweetwater, TX – A solar array which contains approximately 120 modules will produce about 30.5 Kilowatts, providing enough power to operate the student center in Sweetwater. The construction was done by Meridian Solar.
The array is funded by SECO (State Energy Conservation Office) and TSTC West Texas and in addition to providing power to the center, it will also serve as a public and student display for green energy technology.
TSTC Harlingen and TSTC Waco received a solar array over the past year. This is the first solar array for TSTC West Texas.

Drink drive taking place for firefighters

First Financial Bank in Sweetwater and Sweetwater Regional Federal Credit Union are partnering with The American Red Cross to help collect food and water for the first responders of the White Hat Ranch Fire in Maryneal and Nolan Fires by holding a water/Gatorade and food drive to support the The American Red Cross Big Country Branch. With your support, The American Red Cross can continue to support the first responders with adequate hydration and nutrition during this disaster. Please limit donations to bulk packaged bottled water/Gatorade and bulk packaged (snack) food items.

Community prayer planned

A community-wide prayer service is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 28, at 7:30 p.m. "In light of so many fires and so little rain it seems appropriate to join together as a group of believers and pray," said Doug Crum with Fourth and Elm Church of Christ. "However, instead of meeting together to tell God what we need, I think we should meet together and give him what He deserves, our praise."

Dunn addresses move to Travis County

Billie Dunn addressed her recent move to the Austin area at a vigil for her daughter Hailey Saturday night.
Dunn said she decided to move after she felt she became a target for speculation about her role in her daughter's disappearance.
"People say things about me and my family which is hard enough to deal with, and now they're picking on Hailey and David. Having my friends and family around, I'm actually able to focus a little bit more on what is going on inside of all the different centers with Hailey and my head's just more clear now," she said.

Military and Masonic graveside services will be held at the Garden of Memories Cemetery on Thursday, June 30, 2011, at 11 a.m. with memorial services at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Phillip Thomas officiating.

Lady Stangs named all-BC

Junior Alicia Finn and sophomore Kelsi Crosson of Sweetwater were named on Sunday to the 2011 All-Big Country Softball Team by the Abilene Reporter-News.Finn was chosen as a starting infielder after hitting .655 in district play with six doubles, three triples and one homer, while Crosson was selected as a starting outfielder after batting .545 with six doubles, two triples, six stolen bases and a .697 on-base percentage.
Kelsi Crosson earned All-Big Country recognition as a reserve outfielder follow-ing her freshman year.
