All motorcycle enthusiasts are summoned to ride for a good, green cause in June. The fourth annual Ride for Wind event, which benefits Women of Wind Energy, will be held in Sweetwater on June 22-23.
Shermco Industries founded the event and has sponsored it each year to help raise money for scholarships that promote women in the wind industry through the Women of Wind Energy organization.
A Nolan County Grand Jury indicted 11 people on Tuesday, June 21, 2012. Eight of those indictments were sealed. The following cases were true-billed:
Michael Alan Ledbetter was indicted for engaging in organized criminal activity, a third degree felony. Court documents state that Ledbetter, along with four others, burglarized a building without the consent of the owner on Dec. 16, 2011. His bond was set at $12,000.
Norma Bonner was the guest reader for Story Time at the County-City Library on Wednesday, June 20, 2012. Norma read stories to Kindergarten through third grade students.
Students have also benefited from other library activities. Carolyn Walker, retired art teacher and member of the West Texas Art Guild, taught a class of fourth through sixth graders how to paint with watercolors at the County-City Library as well.
The audit report for the 2011 fiscal year was presented during the Nolan County Hospital District Board of Directors' meeting on Monday evening, June 18, 2012, held at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH).
Todd Hrbacek, CPA, presented the information to the board. Highlights from the report were given, with the report coming back with a clean opinion on the financial statements. Hrbacek also noted the past financial year as one of the best in several years for the hospital.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 28 calls for service, issued one citation and made two arrests on June 19, 2012.
The SPD received 37, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had six calls for service, served nine civil papers and made one arrest on June 19, 2012.
These students attended a Mustang Tennis Camp held here last week and taught by new tennis coach Chris Terry. The camp was held Tuesday through Thursday, June 12-14, at the high school tennis courts.
Attending this yearâ€™s tennis camp were Kara Lehnert, Elli Lehnert, Alycia Gibson, Kierstyn Thompson, Charity Thompson, Tyler Marlett, Mia Valdez, Maura Chapman, Isabel Ortega, Grayson Chapman, Jaci McElyea, Kaylee Valdez, Keygan Valdez, Gisela Solano and Gretchen Sweek.
Three were jailed and four were probated during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, with District Attorney Ann Reed and Assistant District Attorney Barrett Thomas prosecuting the cases.
On Sunday, June 17, at about 6 a.m., law enforcement officials were called to the scene of a physical altercation between two men in Albany, Texas.

As such, the hospital will hold a special event on Thursday, June 21, 2012, with a ribbon cutting and ground breaking on two projects that will allow the hospital to continue its mission.
For Jim Porter, the retiring Assistant Fire Chief from the Sweetwater Fire Department (SFD), it seems as if family has always been connected to his role--before, during and after his service.
For the past 35 years, Porter has served the community as a fireman; since 1986, he has been in the role of Assistant Fire Chief. However, during his stint, he was able to work alongside his father Ronald at the fire station.
