The Sweetwater Woman's Forum, with monies they raised from the "$500 Shopping Spree" held in December, were happy to be able to buy five "glider" chairs for Senior Nutrition Activities Program (SNAP).

The West Texas Rehab Center will be having their annual show lamb and meat goat sale on July 17, 2012 at the Wylie FFA Show Barn. The lamb sale will be at 7 p.m. and the goat sale will follow immediately after the lamb sale.
The Rehab Center has lambs and goats that have been donated by some of the top show lamb and show goat breeders in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. The animals will be at the Wylie FFA Show Barn on Monday, July 16, for the public's viewing.
After almost four hours of deliberation, Larry Staton was found not guilty by a six-man, six-woman jury on two charges of indecency with a child â one by contact, a second degree felony and the other by exposure, a third-degree felony â on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 in the 32nd Judicial District Court.
Staton was on trial following his indictment of the two charges that stated the offenses occurred on or around Sept. 1, 2010, to a child younger than 17 years of age.
Gail Rose has recently been promoted to become the new manager of the Sweetwater Regional Federal Credit Union, located at 1900 Preston Road.
Ms. Rose has been with the establishment for the past two-and-a-half years. Prior to her promotion, she served as a bookkeeper as well as an operations manager. Her training in accounting has led to the acquisition of 20 years of accounting experience under her belt.
The West Central Texas Center for Economic Opportunity has been awarded $400,000 to help individuals take steps toward self-sufficiency as part of their Individual Development Account program. Grant monies of $200,000 were received from the Office of Community Services (Assets for Independence Project) and matched by the Dodge Jones Foundation, Dian Graves Owen Foundation, and the Shelton Family Foundation.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 26 calls for service, issued two citations and made one arrest on July 10, 2012.

Thomas âTomâ Walton Leonard, age 68, passed away Monday, July 9, after struggling for several years with Alzheimerâs Disease.
A talented group of Sweetwater 11-12 year-old Little League all-stars will be taking on Burkburnett in a Texas West Section 2 tournament at Carrollton starting at 7:30 p.m. today.
This is the third straight year for most of the teamâs players to be in a sectional tournament after winning the District 5 tournament in Abilene. It began in 2010 when the vast majority of them traveled to Fort Worth to play on a 9-10 year-old team and continued in 2011 when they went to Waco as 10-11 year-olds.

Area officers from the Nolan County Sheriffâs Office, Sweetwater Police Department and Texas Department of Public Safety were trained over the last two days in high performance tactical police driving maneuvers. Four specialized driving instructors and one intern came to Sweetwater to offer the instruction that covered two days. All of the instructors were Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety, according to Sheriff David Warren.
