Three Sweetwater High School boys traveled Saturday to Abilene to compete in the state powerlifting championships, and all three placed in their respective Division II weight classes.
Sam Nemir led the way as he placed sixth in the 181-pound class with a lift of 1,315 pounds in the three categories.
Nemir, a senior at SHS who along with junior Ryan Linebaugh was making his second trip to state, had a 490-pound squat, 335-pound bench press and a 490-pound dead lift.
The 2012 Sweetwater High School varsity baseball team will resume its season at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Brown-wood. Sweetwater hosted a non-district game on Saturday against Odessa High. Notes: Sweetwater JV baseball team cancelled its home game with Brownwood on Monday, March 26. It will be made up as part of a JV doubleheader in Brownwood on April 14. Events on March 27 involving Sweetwater varsity baseball and JV and varsity softball, girls golf and JV tennis were changed due to STAAR testing on March 27.

THURSDAY, MARCH 29
Highland and Blackwell finished first and second with 159 and 146 points, respectively, in varsity boys team track competition on March 9 when Blackwell hosted its Hornet Relays.
The two schools also had a 1-2 finish at the junior high meet held at Blackwell the same day. Highland scored 197 points and Blackwell had 188.

Sweetwater Middle School boys track teams competed at a meet held in Wall on Thursday.
The eighth grade boys had 70 points to place fourth in their division, while the seventh grade boys finished with 39 points.
Sweetwater Middle School girls track results were not available at press time. Both teams will be competing at Colorado Cityâ€™s track meet this Friday.

Farm League (7-8 year-olds): Astros, Pirates, Rangers, Red Sox, Tigers, Yankees.
Minor League (9-10 year-olds): Dodgers, Phil-lies, Rangers, Rays, Red Sox, Riverdogs.
Major League (11-12 year-olds): Aâ€™s, Astros, Diamondbacks, Reds, Yankees.
Junior League (13-14 year-olds): Astros, Rangers.
Sweetwater High School golfers Elise Lawrence (left) and Alex Gomez tied for second place medalist honors on Tuesday at the Lamesa tournament. They shot 83s to finish behind Shanae Ammons of Lubbock Trinity, who shot an 81. All five members of the SHS girls team placed among the top 10 medalists at the tournament as Rachel Hunt placed fourth, while Amy Witt was eighth and Haylee Stewart ninth.
Sweetwater High Schoolâ€™s girls golf teams played well in a tournament at Lamesa on Tuesday. On the back row are members of the varsity team that shot 362 to place first at the tournament, easily beating out second-place Lamesa by 63 strokes. San Antonio â€“ The Swine Skillathon was held Feb. 9, at the San Antonio Livestock Show & Rodeo.
This contest uses participantsâ€™ knowledge of the swine industry and several youth were recognized for their outstanding results by being rewarded with a 2012 San Antonio Livestock Show & Rodeo Scholarship.
One such youth was Tyler Brauneck of Sweetwater, Texas. Brauneck, an active member of the Roby FFA, enjoys horse judging and is an eagle scout. He hopes to eventually attend college for nursing.
The Around the World Yo-Yo Assembly was held at Southeast Elementary School. Established in 1999, Around the World Yo-Yo Entertainment Company has presented the "School is Cool" assembly program to more than 1,000,000 students at over 2,000 schools, camps and special events all over the United States. Their interactive show was filled with humor, world class yo-yo tricks and even magic. Makenzie Ince and Grayson Jeffrey are shown helping with the assembly.
