What can you do to protect the water you drink?
Janie Harris, the Extension Housing and Environmental Specialist with the Texas A&M University System, composed an article in 2004 entitled "Your Actions Can Help Protect Our Drinking Water". In November 2010, the three-page report was revised to include more vital information.
Charles (CP) Davis was born on October 11, 1929 in Normangee, TX and entered Heavenâ€™s gates on March 24, 2011.
CP grew up in Sweetwater, TX and graduated from Newman High School in 1947.Â After graduation he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad.Â He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.Â In 1961, CP moved to Oklahoma City where he worked for the Federal Aviation Administration until his retirement on October 12, 1989.Â He loved camping, fishing, bowling, roller skating and was an avid bird watcher.Â
Lou Edna Blair, age 89, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.Â
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 28, 2011, at Broadway Baptist Church with Rev. James Baker officiating, assisted by Rev. Chris Stephens.Â Burial will follow at Garden of Memories.Â Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.Â
Lou Edna Blair was born April 17, 1921 in Nolan County, Texas to Samuel Christopher and Mary Belt (Stout) Cox.Â She married James Milam Blair in Sweetwater, Texas.Â
Ruth Barton passed away on March 25, 2011, in Sweetwater, Texas surrounded by her children. She was 86. She was born on January 27, 1925 in Bingham Canyon, Utah. She met her husband of almost 65 years, Adrian Barton, in Salt Lake City during World War II. They married one month after they met just before he shipped out to the South Pacific. After the war they made their home in Sweetwater. Adrian passed away on September 17, 2009.

Sweetwater Masonic Lodge #571 will have its third dinner benefitting the West Texas Children's Advocacy Center from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex.
Last year, the Masons were able to raise about $6,000 for the WTCAC. Some of the money comes from the dinner, but most comes from the silent auction that is held before and during the dinner. Those wanting to bid in the silent auction will find a wide variety of items to choose from. "There is something for everybody," said Mason Jim McKenzie.
The local Bluebonnet Club discussed the serious financial topic of reverse mortgages at their meeting on Monday afternoon, March 7.
Guest speaker Scott Morgan of Morgan Real Estate offered great information along with some harrowing details on the almost predatory contact made by organizations who promote this doubtful yet legal practice sometimes pitched as 'tax-free income'.
A reverse mortgage is a type of home equity loan where homeowners put their homes up as collateral to receive loan proceeds. Texas authorized reverse mortgages in 1999.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 52 calls for service, issued no citations and made two arrests on March 23, 2011.

Holy Mass of Christian burial for Santiago Bugarin, Sr., 76, of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Michael Rodriguez officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, march 25, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories, recited by Pauline Gauna.
Bugarin died Thursday, March 24, 2011, in Abilene.
