Josh Abbott Band to release new album

This Tuesday, Texas country music fans can look forward to the release of the Josh Abbott Band's latest project. The Josh Abbott Band is well-known for their hits "Taste," "Oh Tonight" featuring rising country music artist Kacey Musgraves and "Touch" — which included actress Melissa Rycroft in the music video.
But fans in Sweetwater can take pride in one of their own making it big as the band prepares for its first nationally-released album. The drummer of the band, Edward Villanueva, is a 2005 graduate of Sweetwater High School.

Mustangs prevail in shoot-out vs. Tigers

Sweetwater met up with Snyder on Friday for the 65th time, and quickly fell into a hole as the Tigers led 7-0 less than four minutes into the non-district contest at Mustang Bowl. But at the end, it had a wild 58-40 win over its arch-rival, although the victory wasn’t secured until the final 3:15 — when Bray Amos hooked up with Kaegan Jeffrey on a 66-yard pass play that gave Sweet-water an 18-point lead.

Sweetwater Tractor Supply to host Pet Appreciation Week event Saturday

Construction underway on first compressed natural gas station in Sweetwater

Amp Trillium, LLC, the joint venture between ampCNG and Trillium CNGâ„¢, announced that construction has begun on the first public access compressed natural gas (CNG) station in the city of Sweetwater. Located at 9409 S. I-20 Frontage Road, the amp Trillium station will service Class-8 trucks as well as any CNG vehicle. It will be the fourth of seven public fueling stations to be built as part of a previously announced agreement with Dairy Farmers of America and Select Milk Producers to convert a portion of their diesel fleets to CNG-powered trucks. The station is set to open in late October.

Nolan County is no stranger to energy innovation. Oil derricks and pump jacks have dotted the rugged landscape for as long as most residents can remember. When wind energy was embraced by the area, the countryside gave way to towering turbines.
There is a different kind of boom which has begun here recently.
It too, involves extracting oil from the depths of the earth. But instead of drilling vertically into the ground until hitting pay dirt, alternative methods are being utilized such as horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing — more commonly known as fracking.
