‘Stangs lose to AHS to wrap up tourney

After ending its three-day, five-game gauntlet with a 9-3 loss to Abilene High on Saturday at the Abilene ISD Invitational tournament, Sweetwater’s baseball team has two more games this week to prepare for what it hopes will be a third straight run to the playoffs with the start of District 2-4A play.

Boys golfers place 3rd

The Sweetwater varsity boys golf team shot a 383 at Lamesa’s tournament to finish in third place. From left are Colton Scott, Mark Lawrence, Ky Hoover, Wesley Maxwell and Jeremy Witt. Witt (87) was the No. 2 medalist. Lawrence shot 92, Hoover 100, Scott 104 and Maxwell 114. Lawrence was tied for the No. 5 medalist spot.

Becker says diversity is key to Nolan County’s economy

Sweetwater and Nolan County are doing well from an economic standpoint. If you look at the data, the area has continued to flourish despite the recent decline of oilfield activity.
During Tuesday's city commission meeting, City Manager Eddie Brown reported that sales tax collections for the month of February were 10.89 percent higher than they were in the same period last year.

Nolan County Heart Walk set for April 18

On Saturday, April 18, the Nolan County Heart Walk will be held to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living in a fun, family-oriented environment while raising money for the American Heart Association (AHA).
The previous Heart Walk, held in 2013, raised over $15,000 for cardiovascular disease and stroke research. This year's event, given the theme of "Walk the Talk," is aiming to raise $20,000.

SW stops Aledo, breaks even

BILENE — Sweetwater’s baseball team broke even by splitting its first two games Thursday at the Abilene ISD Invitational Tournament, losing 4-1 in its opener to Abilene Cooper before coming back later in the day to get a 3-1 win over Aledo.
Sweetwater scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning against Aledo to break a 1-1 tie just before action ended — with no outs and the bases loaded — as a result of the tournament game time limit.

Varsity tennis team has dual at Andrews

March 13, 2015

The Sweetwater High School varsity tennis team went to Andrews to play a dual match March 3 but only one player — Zac Bax — was able to claim a win which was the result of an Andrews forfeit. Bax lost to Robert Mendieta in his other boys singles match.
