Don't forget that the deadline to register for the Big Country Biggest Winner Contest is Thursday, March 15, with the kick-off event to take place at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2012, at the Sweetwater High School Track. Several gym memberships will be given away at the event.
Four people pled guilty to Judge Glen Harrison during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Monday, March 12, 2012, with District Attorney Ann Reed and Assistant District Attorney Barrett Thomas prosecuting the cases.
With attorney Russell Abound, Vicki Virdiana Guerrero and Raven Javon Weaver both pled guilty to possession of marijuana, prosecuted as a second degree felony. The two were in possession of more than 50 pounds of marijuana, but less than 2,000 pounds, on May 4, 2011, according to their original indictments.
During their regular meeting on Monday morning, March 12, 2012 held at the Courthouse, the Nolan County Commissioners approved a contract with West Texas Centers to purchase all laboratory testing services associated with their services and for inmates covered under the county's agreement with the establishment.
The inaugural Enchanted Darlings pageant is opening the door for area kids and teens to strut their stuff.
The "Beauty Pageant with Elegance" will be held at the LaQuinta Inn, located at 500 Northwest Georgia Avenue in Sweetwater, on Saturday, June 9, 2012 starting at 10 a.m. The pageant is open to girls all the way up to 18 years old and boys up to 6 years of age.
An estimated crowd of 30,000 attended the 54th Annual Sweetwater Jaycees World's Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up. Winners of the 22nd Annual Brisket/Chili Cook-Off were announced with a total of 93 cooks entering the contest this year. Judging coordinator was Jean Gebhard. Grand Champion was Bernie Phillips and Reserve Champion was Dana Reed.

Fort Worth â€”Â Ignacia Paulina Hernandez, 52, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2012. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Survivors include her mother, Ignacia Lopez Gauna; three brothers; four sisters; and several nieces, nephews and other family members.
Arrangements are under the direction of Calvario Funeral Chapel.
The Highland girls track team won the team title Saturday at Blackwellâ€™s Hornet Relays by scoring 143 points for a 71-point win over Stamford, which was second with 72 points.
The host Blackwell girls scored 66 points to place fifth at the meet.
Highland placed first in four events and was second in four others. Its winners were Madison Moseley in the 1600 run (6:16.18) and the triple jump (31-5 1/2), Lora Stewart in the 400 dash (1:06.12) and the 800 relay of Morgan Monroe, Sierra Allen, Stewart and Moseley (1:59.78).
The Sweetwater High School tennis team brought home seven medals at a one-day tournament last Thursday in Brownwood.
Sweetwaterâ€™s winners were the mixed doubles team of Chris Hernandez and Madison Meneses; the â€˜Bâ€™ girls doubles team of Vida Gamez and Teresa Perez Poe; and Shannon Gray in â€˜Câ€™ girls singles.
Taking second for Sweet-water was the boys doubles â€˜Bâ€™ team of Zac Bax and Billy Reeves, while the â€˜Aâ€™ boys doubles team of Isaiah Hernandez and Bryan Vause finished third in their category.
Sweetwaterâ€™s next tour-nament will be March 23-24 at Levelland.
After losing five games to bad weather this past week at the Abilene tournament, the Sweetwater High School baseball team hosted a tough Andrews squad on Monday.
Unfortunately, the visi-ting Mustangs took the lead with a five-run third inning and left town with a 13-2, six-inning victory at Newman Park.
Andrews finished with 15 hits off three Sweetwater pitchers as the Mustangsâ€™ record fell to 6-5-1.
Sweetwater will be back on the road to face Wall at 11 a.m. Friday for its final pre-district game. The team will host Wylie in its 5-3A opener next Tuesday.
