After losing at Brown-wood in four games Friday, Sweetwater at one point appeared to be headed for the same fate in Tuesdayâ€™s district home match with Snyder.
But after falling behind 2-1 with back-to-back los-ses of 25-22 and 25-19, Sweetwater (17-16 season, 1-2 district) won 25-14 to force a Game 5 and wrapped up its first win in District 5-3A play with a dominating 15-5 triumph.
Kelsi Crosson had 12 kills, 14 digs and three aces for the Lady Mustangs, who were trailing 20-9 at one point in Game 3 before winning 50 of the final 74 points.
Tadeo Canon-Masjoan is the Football Player of the Week. A junior move-in from Argentina, he kicked all three extra points and had his first tackle, which was for a loss, against Midland Christian.
Several winners were announced for cruise packages at Brookshire's grocery store in Sweetwater as part of the Cruises, Cars and Cash Sweepstakes. The Fifth Annual West Texas Wind Festival is expected to be another event in which families from the surrounding areas can gather for many activities on the streets of Roscoe. The free event will feature headline act The Bellamy Brothers. Local band Lawless Flatz will also perform during the event. Other attractions this year include the Plowboy Mud Bog at George Parks Field, food and craft vendors downtown, The Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department barbecue cook-off and a fireworks show. Abilene Regional Airport will be this month's host for the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce coffee event to take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at the Sweetwater Reporter, located at 112 W. Third Street. The City of Abilene operates Abilene Regional Airport, which provides economic development opportunities to both the private and public sectors. American Eagle services the airport and provides competitive airfares from Abilene to many places around the United States and the world.
Snyder, Texas â€” The Capital Farm Credit Board of Directors recently approved a $50 million cash distribution by retiring a portion of previously-allocated equities to be paid this fall.
This amount represents more than three times, or $35 million, more than the 2010 retirement. Capital Farm Credit, a customer-owned cooperative, continues to demonstrate its financial strength and stability and longstanding tradition of sharing earnings with its customers.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 167 calls for service, issued 24 citations and made 16 arrests from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, 2011.

Carolyn Horner, age 96, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Oct. 3, 2011 at Baylor All Saints in Fort Worth, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Ward Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

For the first time this year, football and volleyball are both on tap today at Sweetwater High School starting at 5 p.m., when the first of two seventh grade football games against Wylie is played at Mustang Bowl while at the same time the freshman and JV volleyball teams host Snyder at Mustang Gym. The varsity match is at 6:30 p.m. and features a big District 5-3A rivalry matchup, as Sweetwater and Snyder are both trying for their first win in district play.
