Hazel Joy Brown, age 89, of Brownwood, Texas (formerly of Sweetwater, Texas) passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Songbird Lodge Nursing Home in Brownwood.Â
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Clifton officiating.Â Burial will follow at Garden of Memories.Â Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.Â Â Â
Mary J. Knox, age 65, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.Â
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Thomas officiating. Burial will be at Enoch Cemetery in Gilmer, Texas.Â Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.Â
GARLAND - Smarting from a onesided semifinal loss to Waco Southern a night earlier, Sweetwaterâs Senior League (15-16 year-old) all-stars rebounded Friday with an 8-3 win over Dallas Wylie to reach Saturdayâs Texas West Section 2 championship game at the South Garland Little League field.Â
WACO - Sweetwaterâs 10-11 year-old all-stars gave themselves a chance to play for the Texas West Section 2 championship by beating Wichita Falls, 10-0, on Friday at the Waco Midway Little League field.
The victory, which was Sweetwaterâs second against Wichita Falls in the tournament, set up a rematch Saturday against Fort Worth University in the losers bracket final.Â
Sweetwater needed to defeat Fort Worth University in order to reach todayâs championship game against Waco Midway that starts at 6 p.m., then beat Waco Midway in back-to-back games in order to capture the sectional title.Â
Culinary arts students from Texas State Technical College will be at Brookshire's grocery store in Sweetwater on Saturday, July 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to fix a great meal and teach those interested how to make the meal.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 50 calls for service, issued five citations and made one arrest on July 14, 2011.

With a wide variety of items on the agenda, the City Commission met for its regular meeting on Tuesday morning, July 12, 2011 at City Hall.
Two strong presentations were made during the meeting, one regarding inspections of the local water storage facilities. John Voller with the engineering firm Enprotec/Hibbs & Todd made the presentation, offering a handout with photos for the commissioners to peruse.
Out of the nine total water facilities, five have been recently updated or are new. The other four were the main topic of the presentation.
Anis Kashani first started quilting as a hobby for many different events.
Kashani still enjoys creating designs for her quilts, but lately she has taken on other mediums to work with.
She has experimented with charcoal content for quite some time. She enjoys working on photo portraits of people and pets. She still enjoys working with this media, although just two years ago she taught herself to paint with acrylics, painting portraits and abstracts.
The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Texas is $3.57, the same price it was one month ago on June 14, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.
The national average is $3.65.Â The statewide average price is eight cents less than the national average, but increased about 12 cents since last week.Â Texans will find the least expensive average price for gasoline in the state is in El Paso at $3.48.Â Ft. Worth is reporting the most expensive average in the state at $3.61 for a gallon of regular unleaded. Sweetwater's gas price is $3.58.
The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD), located at 301 E.12th, encourages parents to get their children immunized now and not wait until school starts. Parents are reminded that all students entering kindergarten are required to have two doses of Hepatitis A vaccine, and two doses of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine; and all students entering seventh grade are required to have one dose of Tetanus and Diphtheria toxoids and acellular Pertussis vaccine (TDAP) vaccine, one dose of meningococcal vaccine, and two doses of varicella vaccine.
