One person was killed in a motorcycle crash on Saturday afternoon at 6:33 p.m. in Nolan County. The crash was on Interstate 20 mile marker 237 in the westbound lane.
Deceased was Gerome Cloyd Black, 79 years of age from Andrews, Texas. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:25 p.m. by Nolan County Judge Tim Fambrough. The body was taken to McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
Petty Officer Thomas Trujillo with the United States Naval Reserves recently visited Sweetwater Elksâ Lodge #1257 on his âWalk Across Americaâ. He is the President and Founder of the nonprofit One Soldiers Dream. He started a walk across the United States on February 1, 2011 at the Santa Monica Pier in California, and his destination is Washington, DC. He is doing this walk to get the nonprofitâs name out to the national public as quickly as possible.

Black died Saturday, May 21, 2011, on I-20 in Nolan County near Roscoe.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 54 calls for service, issued 13 citations and made no arrests on May 19, 2011.

Roscoe Collegiate recog-nized its 2010-11 athletes at the schoolâs sports banquet on Friday. Athletes in football, cross country, basketball, track and powerlifting were recognized, including those receiving all-district, all-area or all-state honors in their sport this past year. The athletes who received special awards at this yearâs banquet, held at the school cafetorium, are pictured.
Serving as guest speaker for the sports banquet was Jason Johns, who is defensive coordinator for the Abilene Christian University football program.
Two basketball camps, one each for local boys and girls, will be held in Sweetwater on June 6-9.
A Mustang Basket-ball Camp will be held at the high school gym and has two sessions. The registration deadline is Tuesday, May 31. Students completing grades 3-5 will attend from 9-11 a.m. each day, while grades 6-8 will attend from 1-3 p.m. The fee is $30. Each camper must sign a release form and show proof of insurance. Participants will re-ceive a camp T-shirt and basketball. Water will be provided, but campers may bring a sports drink.
Ronald Wayne Bell, age 65, of Blackwell, Texas passed away on Friday, May 20, 2011 at his residence.Â
His body will be cremated.Â No services are planned at this time.Â Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.Â
Ronald was born Dec. 29, 1945 in Lamesa, Texas to James Charley and Myrldean Richards Bell.Â He worked as an industrial electrician for many years before retiring.Â
Chicago--The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) announced that the City of Sweetwater, Texas has received the GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its budget.
Ryan Mercer was commended for qualifying for state competition in boysâ golf. Three other SHS students were recognized at the Sweetwater ISD School Board Meeting with resolutions honoring them for their state qualifying accomplishments. Though not in attendance, SHS girlsâ track member Jayci Shelton was honored for her accomplishment in qualifying for state competition.
The Sweetwater Independent School District (SISD) Board of Trustees met for its regular session meeting on Monday evening, May 16 at Sweetwater High School (SHS) in "The Hub" conference room.
Several presentations were made to open the meeting, including a variety of resolutions, a robotic demonstration and the recognition of a departing board member.
