Sweetwater will host its second annual GreenFest at the Nolan County Courthouse Square on Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.Â The event will feature live music, food, family activities, new energy innovations, electric and hybrid vehicles, large wind energy parts, international films about Sweetwater and Nolan County, and more.Â TXU Energy and Altezza Global are the GreenFest sponsors along with the Mayorâ€™s Youth Task Force and the Texas Wind Energy Clearinghouse.Â
On Monday afternoon, April 4, 2011, between 4:45 and 5 p.m., on the 900 block of E. 16th Street, Chris Spaulding stated that he and his son, Corbyn Spaulding were unloading groceries from the vehicle and bringing them into the house. Mr. Spaulding was just entering into the kitchen area with an arm full of groceries, when he heard a sound outside that sounded like a gun shot. When Mr. Spaulding rushed out side the front door he noticed his son holding his right abdominal side area. Spaulding stated that Corbyn, his son, told him that he felt like he got stung by a wasp.
The presidential search committee for Texas State Technical College System announces two finalists under consideration as the next president of TSTC West Texas: Dr. Irene Cravey, vice president of student learning at TSTC Marshall; and Dr. Paul Gasparro, vice president for academic affairs of Seminole State College, Okla.
On April 30 and May 1, the best MotoTrials riders in the country will come to Blackwell, TX to compete in the first two rounds of the American Motorcyclist Association's (AMA) National MotoTrials Championship Series. MotoTrials is an off-road motorcycle sport that tests rider skill by sending them through 12 obstacle sections per day; sections consist of natural obstacles such as rocks and hills.
Music students of Noreen Carson presented classic Disney melodies at their annual costume recital held in the First Baptist Church on April 10. Participating students were (front row, l. to r.) Dressed in Disney character costumes, students of Noreen Carson performed classic Disney melodies for a large audience of family and friends and served refreshments afterward in the First Baptist fellowship hall. The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 32 calls for service, issued 10 citations and made five arrests on April 26, 2011.
The SPD received seven, 911 calls.

ABILENE â€” Tickets for the Big Country Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet to be held May 9 at the Abilene Civic Center are on sale through Friday, April 29.
The SISD (Sweetwater Independent School District) Board of Trustees met for its regular session meeting on Monday evening, April 18 at the Administration Building.
A variety of presentations were made at the meeting, recognizing individuals, groups and schools for their high honors. A resolution for seven different school entities were read by school board members, and each participant, teacher and principal received a copy.
