There's been no shortage of rain in the Big County this year. Unfortunately, there hasn't been significant precipitation where it matters most as far as Sweetwater and Nolan County residents are concerned â€” over key lakes and watersheds which the city draws its water from such as Oak Creek Reservoir.

Future Sweetwater class of 2014-2015 members â€” made up of Sweetwater High School sophomores â€” graduated with a dinner and ceremony at Texas State Technical College this week. Future Sweetwater is a nine month program designed to provide information about municipal, county and state government and the responsibilities of leadership positions in an effort to create a pool of potential community leaders. It is offered to SHS sophomores annually.
After a two-game sweep in Lubbock last Friday against Borger, Sweetwaterâ€™s baseball team will be hoping for another quick series when it starts a best-of-3 area round playoff series with Fort Stockton tonight at Midland Greenwood.

Today we'll have a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with partly sunny skies and a high near 83. Winds will be from the south around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Those rain chances will increase to 50 percent tonight, with mostly cloudy conditions and a low around 67. Winds will be breezy and from the south-southeast at 15 to 20 mph.
Rain chances will be in the area throughout the entire weekend, with weekend highs in the middle 80s and lows in the low to mid 60s. Breezy winds on Saturday will decrease to around 5 mph by Sunday night.

A jury of 12 found Jessie Lee Deboard, 30, guilty of possession of a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine on Tuesday, then sentenced Deboard to two years in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) facility â€”Â the maximum punishment allowed for the crime â€” on Wednesday in the 32nd Judicial District Court.
