8th grade White still unbeaten

The Sweetwater Middle School eighth grade White football team is now 4-0 after last Thursday’s 24-6 win over Anson. But the seventh grade Red team is still winless after their 16-6 defeat vs. Anson.

Local columnist Bill Tinsley releases his Civil War saga as an Amazon e-book

Bill Tinsley, who writes a weekly faith column for the Sweetwater Reporter, has released his book, Bold Springs, as an e-book available on Amazon .
When Texas votes to secede and joins the Confederacy in 1861, Texans on both sides of the issue find their lives changed forever. Undercurrents of Secession tear at the fabric of a tiny town near the banks of the Brazos River. The majority of the men in Bold Springs join up to defend the South from Yankee intrusion.

Thompson first SHS graduate of the year

Caleb Thompson is the first senior class member at Sweetwater High School to graduate this year. A special graduation service was held at Hendrick Hospital in Abilene.

Nolan County students to host Fields of Faith event

Students from Nolan County will be joining thousands of other youth on athletic fields all across the nation on Wednesday, Oct. 8, to share their Christian faith with fellow students during the ninth annual national Fields of Faith event. This rapidly-growing, interdenominational outreach event will be held at more than 450 locations throughout the nation on this same date.
The doors will open up at 6:30 p.m. at Mustang Bowl. The event will officially start at 7 p.m.

Highland ISD Homecoming 2014 planned this weekend

Highland Homecoming will be Friday, Oct. 10 and Saturday, Oct. 11. Friday’s activities start at 6 p.m. with flag football and basketball for the alumni. Seniors will provide a concession and bonfire begins at dusk.

Joe Ishmel Cotherman

Services for Joe Ishmel Cotherman, 86, of Sweetwater will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014 at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Keith Clower officiating. Interment will follow at Shep Cemetery in Taylor County with military graveside rites under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. on Monday evening, Oct. 6, 2014 at McCoy Funeral Home.
He died on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.

Today, October 6, the bi-monthly meeting at the Maryneal Community Center will be held at 7 p.m., which will be Candidate Night. Any local candidates are welcome to attend.
Also, the Big Country Dance, featuring live music by Dusty Creek Band will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex.
