According to reports, the Snyder police corporal who was shot in the head last week is breathing on his own in a Lubbock hospital.
According to the Snyder Police chief, Corporal Darrell Campbell has been taken off the ventilator and is breathing on his own.
A tube inserted in his trachea is still assisting his breathing, but his condition has been upgraded from critical to serious.
The County-City Library held Story Hour on Thursday, July 21, 2011 for local parents and children. Eloisa Hernandez (shown, far right) read Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh. She also led the group through several songs, including The Itsy Bitsy Spider, Iâm a Little Teapot and Alligator, Alligator. Parents and children were encouraged to participate in the activities. The Sweetwater Independent School District (SISD) Board of Trustees met for its monthly meeting on Wednesday evening, July 20, 2011, at the Administration Building.
Several issues regarding the upcoming school year were discussed which will affect both students and employees of the district. One such matter was the school lunch program, in which approval was given to raise prices ten more cents at each campus.
The Nolan Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual fundraiser from 5:30-8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, an all-you-can-eat brisket meal with all the fixings. Adult plates will be $10 and anyone under 10 years old can eat for $5.
The Nolan Volunteer Fire Department chefs will be taking advance orders for brisket to go at $50 for a full brisket and $35 for a half brisket. To place an advance order, call Mark Morrow at 325-338-8899 or Rolan Petty at 325-236-5496.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 51 calls for service, issued no citations and made one arrest on July 20, 2011.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had nine calls for service, served eight civil papers and made two arrests on July 20, 2011.

Reserved season football tickets to Sweetwater games for the 2011 season are up for renewal to the current option holders through Friday, Aug. 5.
Tickets may be purchased at the Sweetwater ISD administration building, located on 207 Musgrove.
Tickets are $30 for Sweetwaterâs five home games which will be against Vernon on Aug. 26, Mona-hans on Sept. 2, Early (homecoming) on Sept. 16, Big Spring on Oct. 14 and Brownwood on Oct. 28.
Reserved ticket sales for the general public will go on sale on Monday, Aug. 8. The last day to purchase season tickets will be Friday, Aug. 19.
Michael Hernandez was sentenced to 50 years in prison for the May 2010 murder of Roland Lopez. The judge sentenced Hernandez just after 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
Hernandez was convicted of murder Wednesday in an Abilene courtroom by a jury of his peers.
Hernandez was on trial for the May 2010 murder of Roland Lopez of Sweetwater, who was found beaten to death in front of a home on the corner of North 11th and Glendale in Abilene. Lopez was said to be visiting his daughter at his ex-girlfriend's house.
A golf tournament will be held on Saturday, July 23, at the Lake Sweetwater Golf Course to benefit the Roscoe Collegiate High School Athletic Department.
Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. and tee off will be at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $240 per four-person team. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places. Academy gift cards will be awarded to the longest drive and closest to the pin. There will also be a drawing for a $100 Academy gift card. Golf carts are limited and will be rented on a first come, first served basis.
Actors from the New Braunfels Storybook Theatre came to the County-City Library in Sweetwater to perform âTwo Pigs and T.H.E. Wolf,â an entertaining and educational twist on âThe Three Little Pigsâ story. Children and parents attended the 45-minute showing at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday July 20, 2011. The story of Gracie, Suzie, and Theodore Howl Eater was not only hilarious, but emphasized the benefits of making proper choices in even the most difficult circumstances. The audience was asked to participate and even learned a little sign language.
Brandie Gee has been given the honor of Teacher of the Year at Sweetwater High School for the 2010-2011 school year, having taught freshmen, seniors and everyone in between as a math teacher at the school. Of the five years she has taught, four have been with Sweetwater ISD.
Gee attended Texas Tech University and Abilene Christian University. She received a degree in Multi-Disciplinary Studies, and most recently, earned a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction this past April. In addition, she has also been a recipient of the KTXS Teacher Tribute Award.
