Services for Evelyn Estelle Hillyard , 89, of Kaufman, TX, are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at Eubank Funeral Chapel in Canton with Bro. Dan Baum officiating. Burial will be in Haven of Memories in Canton under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home.
She passed away Jan. 26, 2011, in Kaufman, TX.
Family will receive friends Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home.

The first month of the new year is nearly over. That means the high school basket-ball playoffs are getting close, and over the next few weeks the postseason berths in each of the stateâ€™s districts will be decided.
While Sweetwaterâ€™s teams are off tonight, the other six Nolan County varsity squads will see action and three of them are still very much in the playoff hunt. In District 9-A, Division I, Roscoeâ€™s teams have a doubleheader at Haskell while in District 11-A, Division II, Highlandâ€™s teams host Loraine and in District 12-A, Division II, Blackwellâ€™s teams will host Paint Rock.

The Nolan County American Heart Association Board will be hosting their first Wear Red Day Luncheon on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, to promote women's heart health during heart month. Feb. 4 was recently designated as Wear Red Day in Nolan County.
The luncheon will begin at noon at The Center at Texas State Technical College with special guest speaker Susan Hash of Abilene. Hash is employed by TSTC in Abilene and is a recent cardiac survivor.
The West Texas Rehabilitation Center 41st annual telethon and auction Saturday raised more than one point two million dollars ... to be more exact the total at midnight the total was $1,209,995. The overall total now in 41 years is over $33 million dollars. Last yearâ€™s total at midnight was $1,201,000. In 2008 the all-time record was set of $1,271,367 was raised. The second best was in 2007 with 1.26 million.

Wandalene Louise (Rinehart) Moore, (Wanda Moore), age 82 of Sweetwater, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at Nolan Nursing and Rehab.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Ron Chamberlain officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Sweetwater played a basketball doubleheader at Snyder on Tuesday, but came up short as the girls lost 56-40 and the boys fell 71-33. Tino Martinez (24) is pictured. Both teams are idle this Friday.

The Blackwell boys bas-ketball team may not win a playoff berth this season, but the Hornets still gave their fans a memorable ef-fort Tuesday at Robert Lee.
Blackwell overcame a five-point deficit after three quarters to tie the Steers 44-44 at the end of regul-ation. Then it got really crazy as the Hornets forced three overtimes before losing, 59-55. Caleb Jeter had 25 points for Blackwell, which fell to 2-6 in District 12-A, Division II and 9-14 overall while Robert Lee improved to 4-4 and 12-9.
A regular meeting of the Nolan County Commissioners Court was held on Monday morning, Jan. 24, at the Nolan County Courthouse.
Several approvals were made at the meeting, including approval of the minutes of the meeting held on Jan. 10. The commissioners also approved to keep the burn ban for Nolan County in effect for the next two weeks.
