Steve and Toland Smith, two local residents, have opened a new cement company. The first pouring and official opening, of the company took place in Sweetwater Monday morning. The first job will be in a residential area, near the country club. Choice Ready Mix is able to serve a thirty mile radius; from Sweetwater to Abilene. The company will be located in Tye.

Rufus F. Wade, 63, of Kingston and formerly of Sweetwater, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2010.
A graveside service of rememberance took place on December 11, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Westview Cemetery with Rev. Tony McLamb officiating.
Services celebrating the life of Charles Adrian (C.A.) Price will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 16, at McCoy Funeral Chapel in Sweetwater. Burial will be in Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. Mr. Price passed away on December 14, 2010, at the age of 83.
After road trips to Merkel and Stanton this past week, Sweetwater High Schoolâ€™s varsity basketball teams are both playing at home today. But their opponents will be from different schools. The SHS girls will host Lamesa at 6 p.m. at Mustang Gym, while the SHS boys entertain Breckenridge at 7:30 this evening.
After a 35-30 loss to state-ranked Merkel on Thursday, the Lady Mustangs (9-8) won their last three games at Stantonâ€™s tournament.
Both the Highland girls and Blackwell boys came away with second-place finishes at their respective tournaments which ended on Saturday.
The Highland girls and boys hosted their annual Hilltop Classic which also included the Roscoe boys and girls. The Plowboys won third place by beating Highland on Saturday, while the Plowgirls won the consolation title.
A second-place finish by the JV girls in Abilene and a 3-0 record by the freshman boys at their own tournament highlighted Sweetwater High Schoolâ€™s sub-varsity high school basketball action this past weekend.
Also, Sweetwaterâ€™s seventh grade White boys finished 3-0 and the eighth grade White boys were 2-1 at their local tournament to finish as champions and co-cham-pions, respectively, of their divisions.
Roscoeâ€™s Caden Smith earned honorable mention as a defensive lineman on the Class 1A all-state high school football team announced Sunday by the Associated Press Sports Editors.
Smith, a 6-3, 250-pound senior for the Plowboys, also earned all-state honorable mention from the APSE as a junior.
A total of six Sweetwater High School football players have earned all-district recogntion from District 5-3A.
B.J. Walker was the only Mustang on the first team. Walker, a 210-pound senior, was named at outside linebacker after recording a team-high 88 tackles. He also made the second team as a running back after rushing for a team-high 650 yards and nine scores. He was also a second all-district running back last year.
James Harry Jenkins, 86, of Roscoe, Texas passed away on December 12, 2010, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater, Texas.
He was born July 29, 1924 in Bonham, Texas. He married Mable Ward in 1972, in Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Mildred, in 1970, second wife, Mable, on Oct. 28, 2009, a daughter, Betty Jane Gerber and his brothers, David, Paul and Robert.
