Christmas is coming early for Sarah, but she isn’t celebrating alone.
For the second year in a row, the Rotary Club of Sweetwater is sponsoring Sarah Getto.
Getto is a singer, songwriter and musician, from Norman, Oklahoma.
Getto is more than a performer; she is an inspiration. She has been blind since birth, but it has not been a hindrance to the achievements in her life. At the age of three, she taught herself to play the piano and the fiddle, at age 10. Her music has been related to that of Patsy Cline, Reba McEntire, Anne Murray, Floyd Kramer and Karen Carpenter.
American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, which is completely funded through donations. It was originally founded in 1881, by Clara Barton and a group of acquaintances.
The Big Country Branch of the American Red Cross, located in Abilene, is part of the Nolan County United Way. Tim Cox, American Red Cross representative, spoke to the teachers at Sweetwater Intermediate School.
According to Cox, the main focus of the American Red Cross is preparedness. Winter months tend to see an increase in house fires. Many of those fires occur in older houses.
