The Woodmen of the World Lodge #136 of Abilene recently donated many items to the Sunrise Villa senior citizen complex in Sweetwater as part of the Assist Our Community (AOC) project.
Kathryn and John Pendergrass of Sweetwater are members of the Abilene lodge and were the coordinators of this donation.
The Sweetwater Kiwanis Club weekly meeting last week had guest Helen Manroe, representative of Tenaska, as their program. She went into more details of what Tenaska is all about and the next steps for the project. These steps are to include finding a water resource for the plant, detailed engineering plans and to get the federal government to create a policy on what the value would be to catch carbon dioxide for a plant of this size. The Kiwanis Board also decided to donate $300 to a needy family for clothing and coats to brighten their Christmas holiday.
On Tuesday, Rep. Tom Craddick (Midland) filed House Bill 457 to amend the Charitable Raffle act to clarify that qualified organizations who host charitable raffles may promote the raffle in their E-mail newsletters and Internet websites.
