Wind industry still making local impact

Although growth in the area’s wind industry slowed down a couple of years ago, Greg Wortham, Sweetwater mayor and director of the Texas Wind Energy Clearinghouse, said there are still things happening here with wind.
Third Planet Wind is in the middle of a $100 million project in Loraine. Wortham pointed out it’s one of the few wind farm construction projects going on in the state right now. This current phase is the third for the Mitchell wind farm.

Governor: 244 counties in Texas are currently threatened by extreme fire hazard

Texas Governor Rick Perry has issued a proclamation certifying that 244 counties in Texas are currently threatened by an extreme fire hazard due to a disaster in several counties in Texas.
"I do hereby certify that 244 counties in Texas are
currently threatened by extreme fire hazard. Lack of precipitation has dried grass and other vegetation across the state, posing significant fire danger which is expected to continue," stated Governor Rick Perry.

Countdown house a treat for many

You know it's almost Christmas in Sweetwater when Coach David Mayes has his lights up counting down the days to the 25th of December.
But how did the yearly tradition begin? Sweetwater resident Kandy Myers was curious — just as most of us are — and took her investigation directly to the Mayes to find out how the countdown started.

Santa traveled a long distance in his scooter to visit the residents at Sweetwater Healthcare Center. Friends, family, staff and residents celebrated the season earlier this week and opened gifts with Santa.
