Seven enter guilty pleas in court

Seven guilty pleas were entered in the 32nd Judicial Court before Judge Glen Harrison this past week.
Billy John Rosas pled guilty to possession of a controlled substance, namely cocaine. The offense, categorized as a third degree felony, occurred on March 28, 2010.
Under the law, punishment should range not more than 10 years or less than two years imprisonment in the penitentiary. An optional fine not to exceed $10,000 is also allowed.

NCF donates to Sweetwater Christian

The Nolan County Foundation presented a check for a $1,000 to Sweetwater Christian School this past Wednesday following Chapel time. The children showed their appreciation with a little song for Mr. Glenn Bennett, board member of the Nolan County Foundation, singing "Sweetwater Christian School has many friends!"

Cookin’ up fun at Southeast

J.P. Cowen receives special visitors

J.P. Cowen Early Childhood Center received two special visitors last week —Santa and Mrs. Claus. The two stopped by to visit with students and take photos with the students. They are shown with Sweetwater Independent School District Superintendent Terry Pittman and SISD Assistant Superintendent Kathy Smartt.

SMS donates to Sweetwater Goodfellows

Sweetwater Middle School seventh grade students Michael Lawrence and Mikeilah Foust are shown with a donation box for the Sweetwater Goodfellows. SMS collected cans of food and new toys for the Goodfellows. The 7th grade collected the most cans to win a coke party.

Roosters donate to Sweetwater Goodfellows

December 18, 2010

Sweetwater Jaycee Roosters Julie Hurn and Marlyn Gage presented a check to the Sweetwater Goodfellows. Grant Madden and Billie Johnston received the check at the Sweetwater Goodfellows toy and food distribution last Friday. Donations can still be made to Sweetwater Goodfellows at P.O. Box 1148 Sweetwater, Texas 79556.

SISD donates to Sweetwater Goodfellows

Sweetwater ISD made a donation of $1,000 to Sweetwater Goodfellows, honoring SISD employees and remembering Jessie Ortega. Employees of SISD decided that instead of exchanging gifts this year that they would like to make a donation to the Sweetwater Goodfellows. Sweetwater Goodfellows provides toys and food to needy families in Nolan County during the Christmas Season.  Picture are employees of SISD, Sabrina Bishop, Tamra Burt, Laura Bedgood and Ann Allen.

TNB donates to Sweetwater Goodfellows

This year Texas National Bank purchased Sweetwater Mustang stadium seats and distributed them free of charge to Mustang fans making a minimum $20 per seat donation to the Goodfellows of Sweetwater. Speaking about the fundraiser Texas National Bank President Bill Johnson said, "I think our staff came up with a great idea this year. The Goodfellows program is such an important service for the kids of our community, and this fundraiser attracted the interest and participation of a wide group of our citizens." Chris Casto and Trey Atkin presented donation from the fundraiser totaling $1,275.00 to

GP awards SFD with grant

Every day, millions of people count on volunteer and rural community fire units to protect them and their property. More than 825,000 volunteer and small town firefighters do their jobs mostly without recognition and often without the latest equipment or training.
The Sweetwater Fire Department has won a 2010 Georgia-Pacific Bucket Brigade™ grant. Chosen from more than 120 applicants in Georgia-Pacific facility communities in 23 states, the unit received $5,000 to purchase new equipment and gear.

Opposition continues against Tenaska

(Sweetwater and Austin) – The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) recently voted to issue an air permit for the proposed Tenaska Trailblazer Coal plant in Sweetwater, Texas. This is the third coal plant permitted in 2010 and the eleventh coal plant recently permitted in Texas that has yet to go online.
