A fire that Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden calls "suspicious" burned about 600 acres near Lake Trammell on Saturday. The blaze threatened many area homes, as well as oil storage units and natural gas pipelines. According to Madden, the wind, humidity and dry brush made the blaze burn faster and move quickly through the area.
"We are not sure what started the fire. There was nothing around that seemed to have ignited the fire around the area in which it began. If anyone has information about the cause of the fire, we would like to know," said Madden.
Students in Roscoe moved into new facilities once Christmas break was over. The main addition for the school’s collegiate high school is almost complete. According to Superintendent Kim Alexander, all that is needed is some finishing touches, including furniture and signage.
The changes for junior high and high school students include a new science and math wing. This portion of the school was formerly the early childhood facility. This wing includes several refurbished classrooms and restrooms, which are right down the hall from the cafetorium.
