On September 20, Katherine Dickson and her family gave 4th graders from Roscoe, Highland and Blackwell the opportunity to participate in the Kids on the Land (KOL) program at the 69 Ranch near Maryneal, in which Ms. Dickson owns the land. Peggy Maddox, former SISD SEEK teacher and now Director of Kids of the Land program for Holistic Management International developed the program which provides a day of hands-on activities to help students reconnect to the land where they live.
AUSTIN - During their regular monthly meeting Thursday, the Texas Transportation Commission selected Phil Wilson as the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) 19th executive director, effective October 17, 2011. Wilson currently serves as senior vice president of public affairs for Luminant, an electric generation company headquartered in Dallas, and previously served as Texas Secretary of State.
Brysen Cantu, a student of Mrs. Hastey at Sweetwater Christian School, had top sales in the school's Cookie Dough Fundraiser. He and the other students sold cookie dough during the month of September in order to raise money for the school, which is a non-profit organization. Sweetwater Christian School is located at 507 Locust Street.
On Saturday, Oct. 1, at 6:50 p.m., three people were killed and one was injured in a two vehicle head on crash in Coleman County. Mario Gonzales Rios was driving a 2008 Hyundai four door East bound on U.S. HWY 67 near the community of Talpa in Coleman County. Lucio Mendoza was driving a 2004 GMC pickup West bound on the same highway. The East bound Hyundai, driven by Rios, crossed over into the West bound lane striking the GMC pickup head on.
