On Saturday, Oct. 1, at 6:50 p.m., three people were killed and one was injured in a two vehicle head on crash in Coleman County. Mario Gonzales Rios was driving a 2008 Hyundai four door East bound on U.S. HWY 67 near the community of Talpa in Coleman County. Lucio Mendoza was driving a 2004 GMC pickup West bound on the same highway. The East bound Hyundai, driven by Rios, crossed over into the West bound lane striking the GMC pickup head on.

Family RV Center has given the entire Police Department “I’m Part of the Family” T-shirts and in-store coupons in a gesture of appreciation for the services the Department provides to the community on a daily basis. Family RV Center is located at 1410 NW Georgia, exit 243 on IH 20.
A Firefighter's Appreciation Dinner and Silent Auction will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex starting at 6:00 p.m. It will be sponsored by the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce.
The event will serve two purposes: to honor all area firefighters for their tireless efforts during this extreme wildfire season and to raise funds for the groups as well.
It's time to lace up those running shoes for a good cause--the 2011 Sweetwater Heart Walk.
The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 8 at the Sweetwater Mustang track field. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the walk starting at 9 a.m. Participants can walk on the track or a route on the streets will be mapped out.
The local Heart Walk, a fundraising initiative which supports the American Heart Association (AHA), has been taking place for over 20 years. Usually held in the spring, event coordinator Jerrie Gee stated that this year's walk was moved to the fall.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 48 calls for service, issued two citations and made four arrests on Sept. 29, 2011.
The SPD received 19, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had nine calls for service, served seven civil papers and made one arrest on Sept. 29, 2011.
