It was a last-minute decision by Rachel Ramirez to enter her husband, Antonio, into the “Light My Home for the Holidays,” a contest sponsored by KTXS and WTU Retail Energy. “Good thing she did,” he said.
Abilene resident Antonio Ramirez, 43, was chosen as the winner of one year’s worth of free electricity from WTU during the annual KTXS Christmas Lights Parade on Nov. 29. His free year, up to $3,000, begins in January.
Ramirez, a truck driver, said the announcement came as a big surprise and a great relief.

For children and adolescents whose lives were affected by this year's Texas wildfires, the holiday season may bring added anxiety, especially if they lost their home, pets, or treasured possessions and holiday keepsakes.
In some instances children may be experiencing survivor guilt because their home was left unharmed in the wildfires, while those of friends or family were completely destroyed.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 42 calls for service, issued four citations and made three arrests on Dec. 14, 2011.
The SPD received 21, 911 calls.

• Obstruction/retaliation — 100 block of Bales.

• Christian Coppler, 30 — Driving while license invalid.
• Cody Farley, 19 — Warrant.
• Olga Torrez, 18 — Warrants.
