The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 124 calls for service, issued three citations and made six arrests from Dec. 2-4, 2011.
The SPD received 65, 911 calls.

â€˘ James Knox, 43 â€” Driving while license invalid with previous conviction.
â€˘ Fidel Zapata, 41 â€” Driving while license invalid with previous conviction.
Wintry weather is now upon us this first week of December with snowfall continuing from Sunday night, Dec. 4, 2011. Snowfall continued on Monday morning and is expected to continue the rest of the day with a slight mix of rain expected in the afternoon. The high in Sweetwater will be 34 with a low around 23 for Monday night, with wind chill values as low as 10 according to the National Weather Service. The Sweetwater Choral Department is hosting a Dessert Concert Fundraiser in the Sweetwater High School Cafeteria on Monday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. This concert will feature students from the SMS Choirs, along with Choir Soloists, and the SHS Pops Sensations. Tickets are $10 a person. Proceeds to benefit the SISD Choral Department's Festival Trips and New Sound Equipment.
Ken Becker accepts a toy from Jacob and Jordan Blain at the annual Goodfellows toy drive held on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at Wal-Mart. A total of 287 toys were donated and $699.90 was raised at the drive, bringing the current total raised to $3,784.90.
Representative Susan L. King and Taylor Electric Cooperative will host a legislative forum on Thursday, Dec. 8 at the Texas Forest Service Offices located at 1610 North 1st Street in Merkel, TX.
Representative King will open the forum at 10 a.m. with a short presentation welcoming her constituents, which will be followed by an open discussion with opportunities for questions and answers.Â
Town halls are being held in various locations throughout District 71 to allow greater access for those who are interested in meeting with Rep. King.

An 18-wheeler jackknifed on North Highway 70 on Saturday morning, Dec. 3, 2011, causing traffic to be stopped for a short while. There were no injuries reported and only one vehicle was involved in the wreckage. The roadways were wet Saturday morning due to Friday nightâ€™s rainfall and a slight drizzle on Saturday morning.
The City of Sweetwater has received the Growing Green Award from the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) and the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA). Sweetwater received the award for growing its economy through renewable wind energy.
In 1999, a group from the American Electric Power (AEP) decided to build a renewable energy (wind) park called the Trent Mesa between Abilene and Sweetwater. This park would consist of 100 turbines that could produce 100 MW of output.
The holiday season is upon us and the annual Christmas parade, themed this year as "Under the Christmas Tree," will take place starting at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 5. The parade will begin at Higginbothamâ€™s and the Nolan County Plaza shopping center parking lots where the line up and judging will take place at 4 p.m.Â Pull floats in line, from the old IGA to the cable company ready to be judged at that time.
Donations to the 30th annual Spirit of Christmas Food Drive are still being accepted as the drive moves into its final weeks.
The drive will feed more than 14,000 families in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana. The food drive is sponsored by Brookshire Grocery Company stores and various service organizations.
"Many families receive assistance through this effort, and every single donation counts,â€ť said Sam Anderson, community involvement manager for BGC.
