The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 54 calls for service, issued 13 citations and made no arrests on May 19, 2011.
The SPD received 17, 911 calls.

• Assault — 1600 block of Elm.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had five calls for service, served six civil papers and made two arrests on May 19, 2011.

• Ramon Teran Vasquez, Jr., 45 of San Angelo — Warrant/surety withdrawal.
Calls for service:
• Vehicle accident — South Highway 70/CR 236.
• Reckless driver — I-20 MM 247 east bound.
Chicago--The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) announced that the City of Sweetwater, Texas has received the GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its budget.
Ryan Mercer was commended for qualifying for state competition in boys’ golf. Three other SHS students were recognized at the Sweetwater ISD School Board Meeting with resolutions honoring them for their state qualifying accomplishments. Though not in attendance, SHS girls’ track member Jayci Shelton was honored for her accomplishment in qualifying for state competition.
The Sweetwater Independent School District (SISD) Board of Trustees met for its regular session meeting on Monday evening, May 16 at Sweetwater High School (SHS) in "The Hub" conference room.
Several presentations were made to open the meeting, including a variety of resolutions, a robotic demonstration and the recognition of a departing board member.
