A flag raising ceremony was held at the Nolan County Courthouse on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, 2011, to honor those who have fallen in the line of duty. The Nolan County Honor Guard is shown during the ceremony. Several wreaths were laid next to the World War II memorial at the courthouse. The Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Sweetwater hosted a coffee and donut fellowship after the ceremony.
Meek Blood Center will bring two bloodmobiles to Sweetwater on Thursday, June 2. A bloodmobile will be parked at the Nolan County Courthouse and the other will be parked in front of the Lions Club building on Lamar Street. The bloodmobiles come to Sweetwater every eight weeks, which is how often whole blood can be donated. Donors who give blood every eight weeks help prevent blood shortages.
The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly Chamber Coffee at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, at Roscoe State Bank, located at 209 Cedar in Sweetwater. The bank is operated by Jean Jay and the on-site manager is John Davis. Roscoe State Bank offers a variety of financial services including checking and savings accounts, certificates of deposit, individual retirement accounts and consumer, commercial and mortgage loans. It was founded in 1906 and serves all of Nolan County. There are three branches, with 39 employees.
