Hailey Dunn's father arrested for failure to appear

Clint Dunn has been arrested on two failure to appear warrants: one for possession of marijuana, and one driving while license invalid.
He was scheduled to be at Mitchell County Court at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, and was arrested around 10:15 p.m. the same day.
According to the Sheriff's office, Dunn said he didn't know he was supposed to be there.
He is being held at the Mitchell County Jail on a total of $5000 bonds, and if he can't come up with the money he must stay until his court date, which could be up to 90 days.

Manhunt on in Eastland after police chase

The driver of the vehicle involved in a pursuit this morning in Callahan County near Baird, Texas has been identified as Adrian Alberto Garcia. His last known address was in Fort Worth, Texas. He is a Hispanic male standing at 5'7'' and weighing approximately 145 pounds.
The pursuit ended near mile marker 342 in Eastland County. Garcia abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot. At present, tracking dogs, helicopters and several police agencies are searching the area. DPS advises citizens to be on the look out, and do not offer this suspect a ride.

UPDATE: Charge upgraded to attempted capital murder

UPDATE: According to Sweetwater Police Chief Jim Kelley, Carlos Rico has been booked into Nolan County Jail charged with attempted capital murder. His bond has been set at $500,000. The charge is a first degree felony and possible punishment includes 5-99 years or life in prison and a fine up to $10,000.

Alvarado honored at RPMH board meeting

The Nolan County Hospital District Board of Directors met for their regular meeting on Monday evening, June 27, 2011 at the Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH).
The meeting opened recognizing two individuals on the Board. Linda Kite, who is once again serving on the board, was sworn into office by Hospital Chairman Steve Holcomb. Previous board chairman, Carlos Alvarado, was then presented with a plaque for his 10 years of service, the longest tenure of anyone in the position thus far.

Mitchell retires from FFB

A retirement reception was held on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at First Financial Bank to honor Eddie Mitchell, who has been at FFB for over eight years. Those attending enjoyed refreshments and congratulated Mitchell on his retirement. Also, employees enjoyed giving Mitchell gifts, as well as gag gifts in the lobby of the bank. He is shown with FFB President and CEO Kirby Andrews (left) and Mitchell's wife, Cresta Mitchell (right).

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 45 calls for service, issued one citation and made no arrests on June 28, 2011.

The SPD received 19, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Endangering a child — IH-20.
• Theft — 900 block of Oak.
• Theft — 500 block of E. Broadway.
• Burglary of a building — 600 block of W. Alabama.
• Assault — 200 block of FK Williams.
• Assault — 200 block of FK Williams.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had nine calls for service, served five civil papers and made two arrests on June 28, 2011.

Town falls in love with an Angel

A Lubbock man is spending the night behind bars after his 4-year-old son was found wandering in the middle of Interstate 20 on Tuesday morning in Nolan County.
The child was found at 6:30 a.m. near the Highway 70 split on the east side of Sweetwater.
When turning onto Interstate 20 early Tuesday morning the last thing Sweetwater high school basketball coach Al Hunt and his son expected to see in the middle of the road was a child.
Yet standing in the middle of the dangerous freeway was 4-year-old Angel Flores.

Community comes together for prayer

The Nolan County community came together on Tuesday evening for prayer. The event took place on the lawn of First Financial Bank in Sweetwater. Many attended the prayer for rain in light of so many local fires and lack of rain in the area.

Community donates to Red Cross

Sweetwater Regional Federal Credit Union and First Financial Bank in Sweetwater partnered with The American Red Cross to help collect food and water for the first responders of the White Hat Ranch Fire in Maryneal and Nolan Fires by holding a water/Gatorade and food drive to support the The American Red Cross Big Country Branch yesterday. Shown is Jonel Guihama, American Red Cross volunteer, standing in front of some of the donations received at the Sweetwater Regional Federal Credit Union in Sweetwater. Donations will be distributed to areas of need for fire victims and fire fighters.

Rode Owen promoted at FFB Merkel, Trent

SWEETWATER, Texas — First Financial Bank, N.A., Sweetwater announced the promotion of Rode Owen to Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager for First Financial Bank in Merkel and Trent. He replaces Vice President Eddie Mitchell who recently retired from First Financial Bank after eight and a half years of service.
