Sitting in the midst of the crowd during the Sweetwater Healthcare Center Christmas party on Wednesday afternoon, December 21, is a man donning yellow sunglasses and a Santa hat.
But the hat is only a glimpse into the persona that the man, Herman Winslett, portrayed for the past 35 years.
Mr. Winslett is taking a break from being Santa Claus--the suit doesn't quite fit as well as it once did. Right next to his side is his bride of 41 years, Wynelle, who also took on the role of Mrs. Claus.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 44 calls for service, issued five citation and made no arrests on Dec. 22, 2011.
The SPD received three, 911 calls.

The Knights of Columbus and the Columbian Squires will be hosting their third annual New Year's Eve Party on Saturday, Dec. 31 from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall. There will be free food throughout the night. Admission is $5 per person with 12 years and under getting in free with a paid parent. It will be a family friendly night featuring DJ Perez.
Six Texas State Technical College West Texas employees received recognition from Mike Reeser, Chancellor of the TSTC system. He awarded Kathy Bond, Kimberly Packard, Sandra Walker, Kay Johnson, Shawn Weaver and Dana McElroy with the Chancellorâ€™s Excellence Award. These annual awards honor individuals who model excellence and are recognized for their sound character and for advancing TSTC's new directions. Due to their caring and dedicated efforts, TSTC continues to make a difference in the success of its students.

The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers in Nolan County â€“ cancer survivors, caregivers, community leaders, anyone wanting to make a difference in the fight against cancer â€“ to organize and recruit fundraising teams, garner community support, coordinate logistics, seek refreshments and prizes, plan entertainment and lend a hand to ensure the success of the 2012 event.
As Texas families are gearing up for their holiday road trips, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Texas is four cents less than the average last week, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.Â The current statewide average is $3.05.

The Sweetwater Fire Department responded to nine ambulance calls and two fire calls on Dec. 21.
â€¢ Seven ambulance calls in the city of Sweetwater.
Sweetwater emergency services personnel responded two three different accidents within an hour on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, in the area.
According to Sweetwater Emergency Services Manager Grant Madden, one call came in around 3 p.m. about an accident near Palava in which a man was accidentally pinned between a truck and a wood pile. The man's leg was broken and he was flown to Abilene via helicopter.
Several have entered guilty pleas this week to Judge Glen Harrison during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings, prosecuted by District Attorney Ann Reed and Assistant District Attorney C. Barrett Thomas.
The winners of the Sweetwater Reporter Christmas coloring contest have been chosen. Second grader Hartley Sager (pictured) was the first place winner and received a $50 gift card as her prize. Third grader Adrianna Moreno was the second place winner and received a $25 gift card as her prize. The winners are shown with Gloria Rudel. Their drawings, along with all other entries, will be in the Letters to Santa section in the Friday, Dec. 23 edition of the Sweetwater Reporter.
