Sweetwater is one of 42 communities featured in the 2012 Texas Midwest Guide.Â The 17th edition of the annual publication is now in circulation and showcases quality of life and points of interest in the region.Â Participation in the regional marketing guide is sponsored by the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce. Local advertisers participating in the guide include La Quinta Hotel, Ranch House Motel and Restaurant and Stay Express Inn and Suites.
Bealls is spreading a little holiday cheer while giving back to the community this festive season through the sale of their boy and girl-themed â€˜Bears that Careâ€™ to benefit Toys for Tots. The plush brown and tan bears adorned with a holiday scarf and Christmas gift retail for $6.98 and from now until Dec. 24, Stage Stores Inc., the parent company of Bealls, will donate $1 for every bear sold to Toys for Tots.
C.J. Hubbard was the winner of the $500 shopping spree, given by the Sweetwater Womanâ€™s Forum. Each holiday season, the Womanâ€™s Forum conducts a drawing for a shopping spree, with all proceeds going towards Sweetwaterâ€™s beautification and also this year going towards the County-City Library. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Texas is one cent more than the average last week, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.Â The current statewide average is $3.12.
The national average is $3.29, showing no change from last week.Â The statewide average price is 17 cents less than the national average.Â The most expensive gasoline average in the state is in Amarillo at $3.16, two cents less than last week.Â El Paso is reporting the least expensive average in the state at $3.01 for a gallon of regular unleaded.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 44 calls for service, issued six citations and made one arrest on Dec. 8, 2011.
The SPD received 18, 911 calls.

Sweetwater Animal Control currently has six pets available for adoption.
One of the adoptable pets is a white and brown male mixed breed dog. Another is a brown male chihuahua mix. Also available are two boxers, one male and one female, a female Alaskan Husky and a female German Shepherd.
According to Sweetwater's new animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
CMS created the Five-Star Quality Rating System to help consumers, their families and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily and to help identify areas about which clients may want to ask questions.Â
Residents of Nolan Nursing and Rehabilitation in Sweetwater went on a special trip on Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, to the home of Billy and Janice Boil. Residents enjoyed a tour of the Boil home, decorated floor to ceiling with Christmas cheer while enjoying hot chocolate and treats.
The annual Christmas parade, themed this year as "Under the Christmas Tree," has been rescheduled and will be starting at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 12. The parade will begin at Higginbothamâ€™s and will continue to Pecan Street. Judging will be at 4 p.m. in the Higginbotham parking lot. Candy may be thrown carefully to the crowd.Â Entries are not required to be lighted, just decorated. Walking entries are welcome, as are strollers, dogs on a leash, skaters, those riding scooters, bicycles or go-carts.Â Small children must have an adult walking with them.
