One arrested in Broadway wreck

January 5, 2012

Local authorities responded to several wrecks on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2011. One wreck (shown above) occurred on the corner of Broadway and Crane around 4 p.m., involving three vehicles. No transports were made from the wreck, but one person was arrested at the scene. Justin Spencer, 30, was charged with driving while intoxicated. Emergency personnel also responded to a wreck on Oak Street in which a woman hit two parked cars and was transported to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.

Doris’s hosts chamber coffee

The first Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce Coffee of the new year was held at Doris’s Sweet Shop on Wednesday, Jan. 4. Community members and Chamber of Commerce members were treated to coffee, tea and sweets. Shown above are Janis McDowell and Peggy Parrott.

Sweetwater Independent School District schools went back to school on Thursday morning, Jan. 5, 2012, after the Christmas holiday break. Shown are Sweetwater Intermediate School fourth graders in Mrs. Sabra Hazard’s class, easing back into their school lessons.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 37 calls for service, issued no citations and made four arrests on Jan. 3, 2012.

The SPD received 20, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Family violence assault — 200 block of E. Fourth.
• Burglary of a habitation — 100 block of Bradford.
• Fraud — Sweetwater.
• Assault — 900 block of Circle Drive.
Arrested by SPD:
• Felicia Salinas, 24 — City warrants.
• Mary Gonzales, 54 — Possession/delivery of a controlled substance.
• Darrel Brush, 47 — Possession/delivery of a controlled substance.
