A tense situation was diffused in front of the Sweetwater Post Office after an Abilene Police Department bomb squad robot destroyed a suspicious package this afternoon.
Officials in Sweetwater were reportedly on heightened awareness following the presence of several protesters outside the Nolan County Courthouse yesterday and its close proximity to the post office.
The package reportedly contained a cellphone.
There were no injuries.

Jesus Cecilio Villa pled guilty to indecency with a child by contact, a second degree felony, during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012.
Along with their recent renovation, First Financial Bank in Sweetwater updated the furniture in their offices. Their older furniture was donated to several local churches. The rescheduled City Commission meeting took place on Tuesday morning, Feb. 21, 2012 at City Hall.
The resolution recognizing the contributions of the Ludlum family to the economic life of Sweetwater along with the 50th anniversary of Ludlum Measurements was approved, following the reading of the resolution last Tuesday, Feb. 14 by Commissioner Jerod Peek.
Ken Becker, Executive Director for SEED, recently traveled to Washington DC in conjunction with the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) and their “Wind Power on Capitol Hill 2012”. This is an effort to educate the legislators on the importance of passing the Production Tax Credit (PTC) extension. "We were looking for a minimum one year extension that would be tied to the Payroll Tax Bill," said Becker. "The current PTC will expire on Dec. 31, 2012. The importance of the PTC extension is vital in keeping the emerging renewable energy markets expanding, investing, and hiring employees."
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 43 calls for service, issued seven citations and made zero arrests on Feb. 20, 2012.
The SPD received 14, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 36 calls for service, served one civil paper and made four arrests from Feb. 17-20, 2012.

• Maurice Earl Oler, 42, of Abilene — Warrant/theft by check.
• Jimmy Gene Willett, 19, of Snyder — Bench warrant.
