Cardiologist speaks at Go Red For Women Luncheon

A rosy hue radiated during the second annual Go Red for Women luncheon at the Sweetwater TSTC (Texas State Technical College) campus on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012.
Nolan County American Heart Association (AHA) board member Jerrie Gee welcomed the guests to the venue and thanked the business sponsors, Shannon Regional Medical Center in San Angelo, Sweetwater Floral, members of the local AHA board and the regional director of the AHA for their assistance toward the success of the luncheon.

Local students compete in regional spelling bee

Sweetwater Middle School seventh grader John Clift (shown), son of Dan and Kim Clift and Sweetwater Intermediate School fifth grader Kara Lehnert, daughter of Dustin and Yvonne Lehnert, will represent Sweetwater Independent School District at the Odessa American Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday, Feb. 25. The winner of the regional Spelling Bee will have the opportunity to compete nationally.

Sick/dead wild quail sought for study

ROBY – With quail season in full swing, experts are asking hunters to be on the lookout for sick or dead wild quail to help them solve a nagging mystery.
“We’re asking hunters to let us know of any strange-acting quail or, better yet, of any  carcasses they come across or sick birds they’ve found,” said Dr. Dale Rollins, Texas AgriLife Extension Service wildlife specialist at San Angelo.

Miss Snake Charmer Pageant nears

The annual Sweetwater Jaycees Miss Snake Charmer Scholarship Pageant is a time where young ladies from throughout the Big Country come together to compete for scholarship money. At last year's pageant, past queens were recognized for the 52nd year of the Miss Snake Charmer Pageant.
The annual pageant will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium. The pageant is open to all girls between the ages of 16-19 who live within a 75 mile radius of Sweetwater.
