Greetings to everyone from the Avondale Baptist Church family! If you do not have a church home we would like to invite you to come and visit us and worship Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We are located at 1405 Hoyt Street.
We will have "High Attendance Day" in Sunday school this week. We are working and praying for 85 in attendance. Try to join us if you can.
Chef Mary Ann Esposito, host of the PBS television show “Ciao Italia,” knows all about the joys and benefits of cooking with olive oil. Olive oil is 100 percent natural, contains no cholesterol, trans fats, sodium or sugar. It adds a delicious splash of flavor
to any recipe. As a rule of thumb, she says, substitute an equal amount of olive oil for other cooking oils.

A man with a history of peeping on women in private places was arrested after being found lurking in a women's dorm at Abilene Christian University.
It happened at ACU's Gardner Hall over the weekend. Campus police arrested 40-year-old Jeremy Jacques on a charge of criminal trespass. Some of the dorm's residents say they had no idea a strange man was able to make it inside the building.
"It's kind of scary to know that people can come into your dorm without even knowing," said ACU freshman Linsey Thut.
Sweetwater High School's DECA chapter, a business competition organization, will be heading to Corpus Christie to compete in the state level competition. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, will host an open-house style public meeting for the development of the Texas Rural Transportation Plan 2035. This plan will identify the transportation needs for all modes in rural Texas through 2035. In addition, the plan will include a prioritized list of highway projects that will allow TxDOT to focus its limited planning funds on the most needed highway projects.
East Ridge Elementary School faculty and staff celebrated the 27 years of service of Roseanna Ford to Sweetwater ISD and East Ridge Elementary in a retirement reception held for her in the East Ridge Elementary library complex. Mrs. Ford was joined by her family, friends, faculty and staff to honor and thank her for her years of service.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 44 calls for service, issued one citation and made one arrest on Feb. 22, 2012.
The SPD received 15, 911 calls.

Arrested by SPD:
• Merced Flores, 30 — Public intoxication.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 12 calls for service, served no civil papers and made one arrest on Feb. 22, 2012.

• Shawn Lee Swanson, 22, of Ft. Worth — Warrant/motion to revoke probation.

A Sweetwater man who was arrested for disorderly conduct after peeping over bathroom stalls in south Abilene restaurants was arrested on similar charges last weekend at ACU.
Officials at ACU confirm 40-year-old Jeremy Jacques was arrested for criminal trespassing by ACU police after he was found crawling out of the bathroom window of a female dormitory.
Jacques was taken to the Taylor County Jail and was released after posting $1,000 bond.

The Abilene Police Department Bomb Squad robot destroyed a suspicious package in Sweetwater Wednesday afternoon.
"It was taped up with some black electrical tape and athletic tape, and did not have a proper label on it," said Det. Lance Richburg of the Sweetwater Police Department.
Sweetwater PD called in the Abilene Police Department Bomb Squad after a postal employee picked it up at the Nolan County Courthouse and brought it to the post office.
"Once the postal employee began looking at the package more closely, he became concerned and left it in the parking lot," Richburg said.
The 2011 racial profiling statistics for the Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) were presented during the February 2012 regular meeting of the City Commission by Sweetwater Police Chief Jim Kelley.
According to the written report, racial profiling is defined as "a law enforcement-initiated action based on an individual's race...rather than on the individual's behavior or on information identifying the individual as having engaged in criminal activity [and] pertains to persons who are viewed as suspects or potential suspects of criminal activity."
