The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce hosted a 50th anniversary celebration on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at the Sweetwater Country Club for Ludlum Measurements. Many members of the community attended the reception and several presentations were made to founder Don Ludlum.
During their meeting on Monday morning, Feb. 13, the Nolan County Commissioners approved two contracts with Wigington, Hooker and Jeffrey Architects toward repairs and reconstruction of the Nolan County Courthouse and construction of a jail and possible offices for the county sheriff.
The contracts include--for both projects--the estimated budgets, services and responsibilities of the parties. A timeline of both projects was presented, which consisted of evaluating proposed constructions.
The regular monthly meeting of the City Commission was scheduled for Tuesday morning, Feb. 14, 2012 at City Hall. However, travel and unforeseen circumstances led to the lack of a quorum, resulting in the postponement of the meeting.
Nonetheless, a few non-deliberating items were briefly presented. Commissioner Jerod Peek read a resolution which recognized the economic contributions of the Ludlum family to Sweetwater as the company bearing the family's name is celebrating 50 years of business this year.
Sweetwater Animal Control currently has three dogs available for adoption.
One of the adoptable pets is a female basset hound mix shown on Tuesday. Also available are a female mixed breed puppy, a male mixed breed dog (brown) and a male terrier mix (white).
According to Sweetwater’s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
