March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, so Hendrick Cancer Center of Abilene will be at the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department, located at 301 E. 12th in Sweetwater from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, March 15, 2012. They will be offering the fecal occult blood test. A new easier and more accurate test will be used this year. The fecal occult blood test is a simple at-home procedure that checks a stool sample for hidden blood, which can be a sign of cancer, polyps or other internal disorders.
Ray Cornutt, Sweetwater Jaycee President and Chairman of the 54th Annual World’s Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up, has released the schedule and prices for the upcoming Round-Up on March 9-11, 2012. The Jaycees have released that they will be paying $10 per pound for live Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes. The Jaycees have collected more than 300,000 pounds of Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes since the start of the Round-Up in 1959.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 31 calls for service, issued six citations and made two arrests on March 6, 2012.
The SPD received 21, 911 calls.

• Michael Ellison, 51 — Deadly conduct/resisting arrest.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had seven calls for service, served no civil papers and made two arrests on March 6, 2012.
