Eight entered guilty pleas during 32nd Judicial District Court on Monday, March 19, 2012. The cases were prosecuted by District Attorney Ann Reed and Assistant District Attorney Barrett Thomas. Judge Glen Harrison presided over the cases.
Speedy Rudolfo Zambrano, with attorney Tom Rees, Jr., pled guilty to possession of marijuana, a state jail felony.
Zambrano was arrested on Aug. 22, 2010, when local authorities found a large marijuana plant growing in his yard.
The Big Country Biggest Winner contest kick-off took place on Monday, March 19, 2012, at the Sweetwater High School new gym. Members from several of 48 teams were at the event to get motivated and win prizes geared towards weight loss.
A change in voting precincts was made during the special called meeting of the Nolan County Commissioners on Friday morning, March 16, 2012 at the Nolan County Courthouse.
Approval was given to consolidate voting precincts 10-14 in the county with the other current precincts, with the eventual plan of removing the said boundaries. Following the 2003 redistricting, lines were drawn which split Nolan County into different districts.
The Jazz Ambassadors is the United States Army's premier touring big band. This 19-member ensemble, formed in 1969, has received great acclaim both at home and abroad performing America's original art form, jazz.
The U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors of Washington, D.C., will continue its long history of presenting free public performances when it appears at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium on Monday night, April 2, 2012 at 7 p.m. The Jazz Ambassadors’ concert in Sweetwater is sponsored by the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 46 calls for service, issued seven citations and made two arrests from March 16-18, 2012.
The SPD received 46, 911 calls.

• Criminal mischief/possession of drug paraphernalia — 1600 block of E. 12th.
• Sexual performance by a child — Sweetwater area.
• Theft — 1100 block of Elm.
• Sexual assault of a child — Sweetwater.
• Theft — 2000 block of Bristol.
• Criminal mischief — 1600 block of San Carlos.
• Theft — 1300 block of Bristol.

The Sweetwater Junior Varsity Mustang baseball game with Wylie has been cancelled for today. They will play a double header on Saturday, April 7, 2012.
The 2012 U.S. FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) was held the first weekend of March for the Regional events in San Antonio. Competing in that Regional were 64 teams representing a number of states and Mexico. The game this year was entitled “Rebound Rumble.” Traveling down to the Alamo Regional was the Roscoe Plowbots who made their third straight appearance in the FRC contest. The objective in the game was for teams, along with their alliance teams, to score as many baskets in goals that ranged from two to eight feet high.
High Sky Children’s Ranch and the West Texas Children’s Advocacy Center have once again partnered to host the Seventh Annual West Texas Child Abuse Awareness Family FunFair in Sweetwater. The FunFair will be held at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex on Wednesday, April 4, from 4-6:30 p.m. The Time of Remembrance will start at 6:05 p.m. and organizers ask that everybody stay for the ceremony honoring children who have been victims of child abuse.
