Sweetwater Independent School District has announced the finalist for the Athletic Director/Head Football Coach at Sweetwater High School.
Shane Mobley, presently the Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at 5A Seguin High School, will be presented for approval to the SISD School Board on Monday evening.
Mobley coached at Sweetwater from 2004-2008, serving as the defensive coordinator. During his time there, SHS compiled a 41-12 record and a trip to the 2005 3A State Semi-Finals.
Many members of the community showed their support for the local Meals on Wheels program by attending the annual Taste of Sweetwater on Monday, April 9, 2012. Over 300 people showed up for the event, directly benefitting the program, part of the Senior Nutrition Activities Program (SNAP), delivering hot meals every weekday to over 200 homebound residents in Sweetwater and Roscoe. According to Director Tonya Challis, the event raised about $3,000 for the Meals on Wheels program.
The Women's Forum of Sweetwater sponsors Library Tag Day each year to benefit the County-City Library. This year the event took place on Wednesday, April 4, with all proceeds going to the library.
The total amount raised was $6,856.18. Donations come from local businesses, civic groups and individuals wanting to keep the local library growing and thriving.

The Sweetwater Jaycees hosted their annual Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Fraley Park, bringing hundreds of children to the park to hunt for thousands of eggs â€”Â some filled with prizes and tickets for large Easter baskets.
The hunt is only one of the events hosted by the Jaycees, as they also put on a Thanksgiving Day Feed and Santa Claus call-in for the community and give to many local organizations. They also host the World's Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up, along with the Miss Snake Charmer Scholarship Pageant.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 108 calls for service, issued 32 citations and made six arrests from April 6-8, 2012.
The SPD received 39, 911 calls.

Sweetwater Animal Control currently has three dogs available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a male dachshund mix, one male mixed breed dog and one female collie mix. According to Sweetwaterâ€™s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.
On May 3, 2012, Sweetwater Independent School District will hold Kindergarten Roundup at Southeast Elementary. Personnel from Southeast Elementary will be registering students that will be attending Kindergarten next year in the 2012-2013 school year. The registration will be from 4-6 p.m. in the gym at Southeast Elementary, 1201 Mustang Drive. All Kindergarten students in Sweetwater attend school at Southeast Elementary and this will be an opportunity for the students to be registered for school early.

Robert R. McBride and the Nolan County Veterans Service Office announced that AT&T is partnered with the Texas Veterans Commission to fill over 600 jobs.
Through a partnership between AT&T and the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC), AT&T has committed to hire Texas Veterans to fill more than 600 Premises Technicians positions for AT&T's new U-verse integrated digital TV, high speed internet and voice service.
The Sweetwater Kiwanis Club presented a check for the Aâ€™s R Us Program at the March SISD School Board Meeting. Pictured making the presentation is local Kiwanian Leader Bill Haley.
The Kiwanis Club provides an opportunity for students to perform each year in the local Star Search. Proceeds from the Star Search support the Aâ€™s R Us program which is another program the Kiwanis Club began.
