Sweetwater sixth grade band earns all ones

On Friday, May 4, 2012, the Sweetwater sixth grade band followed in the footsteps of the middle school and high school band as they came home with superior ratings at the Clyde Invitational Band Festival.
"This is an exciting moment," explained director Ross Grant. "This is these student's first-ever contest performance. They perform on an unfamiliar stage before three adjudicators. It is a great opportunity for them to put their new skills to the test. The kids must focus in and do their best."

Gas price drops again

Crude oil prices declined over the last week and the prices at the pump continued a steady, month-long decline. This week the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Texas is down seven cents and sits at $3.61, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. 
The national average is down for a fifth consecutive week and is now $3.74, which is six cents less than last week.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 38 calls for service, issued three citations and made four arrests on May 9, 2012.

The SPD received 20, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Theft — 700 block of NE Georgia.
• Assault — 400 block of E. 12th.

Arrested by SPD:
• Tanner Engel, 21 — Disorderly conduct.
• Henry Payne, 26 — Warrants.
• Mark Williams, 28 — Evading arrest/detention.
• Christopher Ramos, 20 — Public intoxication.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had nine calls for service, served no civil papers and made no arrests on May 9, 2012.
