The Blackwell Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) will be holding their annual 4th of July celebration, parade and barbecue on Saturday, June 30, 2012. A parade will kick off the event at 5 p.m. on Main Street in Blackwell.
At 5:30 p.m., the Blackwell VFD will be selling barbecue brisket and sausage plates with all the trimmings at their station located on Main Street. Plates are $10 for adults and $5 for children, with all proceeds benefitting the Blackwell VFD.
United Way of Abilene volunteers invite West Central Texas non-profit organizations to submit applications for 2013 community investment by noon on July 12, 2012; applications are available online at www.unitedwayabilene.org.
United Way requests organizations call 325-677-1841 as soon as possible to inform United Way of their intent to apply, and to foster continued dialogue throughout the application process. This notification will also assist planning efforts for the volunteer review process.
This week as Texans prepare to travel during the 4th of July holiday, families are paying about $45 to fill-up a 14-gallon tank which is the size of a typical family vehicle.Â This is about $4 less than what 4th of July travelers were paying at this time last year for the same tank.Â The average for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.20, which is eight cents less than last week, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.Â
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 39 calls for service, issued no citations and made two arrests on June 27, 2012.
The SPD received 41, 911 calls.
