Hometown heroes work together to make the community safe

Our law enforcement and fire departments, along with other entities, work together to make the community a safe place to live. TMCN hosts lawmakers luncheon

Texas Midwest Community Network hosted a special event at the Bill Franklin Center in Coleman to recognize state lawmakers who serve districts in the region. The purpose of the Lawmakers Luncheon was to provide an opportunity for state senators and representatives to meet with local officials in preparation for the 2013 Legislative Session.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 31 calls for service, issued no citations and made no arrests on June 21, 2012.

The SPD received 22, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Criminal mischief — 1000 block of W. 6th.
• Fraudulent use of ID — Sweetwater.
• Burglary of a building — 1200 block of Ragland.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had four calls for service, served two civil papers and made no arrests on June 21, 2012.
Calls for service:
• Vehicle accident — I-20 MM 236 east bound.
• Information only — E. 14th.
• Suspicious person — South I-20.

JavaJax to host CD release event tomorrow

A live music performance, featuring musician Brian McRae, will be held at JavaJax in downtown Sweetwater on Saturday evening, June 23.
McRae has recently recorded a new CD entitled “Painted World” which will be available for purchase on the night of show. Local residents Suzi and Rex Scaggs are the executive producers of the new album, which includes a song titled Sweet Water.

Blackwell to host 4th of July celebration

The Blackwell Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) will be holding their annual 4th of July celebration, parade and barbecue on Saturday, June 30, 2012. A parade will kick off the event at 5 p.m. on Main Street in Blackwell.
At 5:30 p.m., the Blackwell VFD will be selling barbecue brisket and sausage plates with all the trimmings at their station located on Main Street. Plates are $10 for adults and $5 for children, with all proceeds benefitting the Blackwell VFD.

Ribbon cutting at RPMH

Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital hosted a special event on Thursday, June 21, 2012, with a ribbon cutting and groundbreaking on two projects.
As part of a larger renovation project that began late last year, RPMH celebrated — with members of the community — the completion of updates to its medical/surgical wing with a ribbon cutting ceremony. More than 40 patient rooms were enhanced during the renovations with various updates, including six existing rooms modified to comply with Disability Act (ADA) standards.

Groundbreaking at RPMH

Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital hosted a special event on Thursday, June 21, 2012, with a ribbon cutting and groundbreaking on two projects.
The hospital had a ground breaking ceremony for a new medical office building, which is slated for completion this December. Planned for nearly a year, the new facility will provide the hospital with additional much-needed space for physician offices.
