SISD school board honors VASE competitor

Amber Hernandez, a freshman Sweetwater High School art student of teacher Scharles Kelley, was presented with a resolution for advancing to the state VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event) competition.
Amber was honored during a meeting of the Sweetwater ISD School Board. She is shown (right) with Mrs. Kelley.

Kiwanis kids fishing tournament tomorrow

The Sweetwater Kiwanis Club is joining forces with Pappy's Bait and Grill Shop to sponsor a Kids Fishing Tournament to be held on Saturday, June 16, 2012.
The event will be held at the Lake Sweetwater Boat Ramp, with the competition running from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
The entry fee is $5 per entrant, which includes lunch, gifts and prizes that will take place after the tournament. Prizes will be awarded for the Biggest Fish, Smallest Fish and Outstanding Angler to the following age groups: 3 to 5 year olds, 6 to 8 year olds, 9 to 12 year olds and 13 to 16 year olds.

SISD school board honors TMSCA teams

A Resolution honoring the 2012 Sweetwater Middle School TMSCA (Texas Math and Science Coaches Association) teams for qualifying for state was presented at a Sweetwater ISD School Board Meeting. 
The teams are made up of members Kilanie Arpin, Marc Butler, John Clift, Annaliese Espinoza, Lizzie Gray, Kaylee Lantto, Christa Martin, Adrian Ortega, Jaelynn Page, Daniel Peña, Isabella Peña, Erick Rico and Chance Saunders and are led by teachers Larry Hopple, Dan Huskerson and Carola Martin.

Ribbon cutting celebrates new office of Dr. Timothy Jones

After joining Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) six months ago, Dr. Timothy Jones celebrated the opening of his new office at the Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital Doctor’s Clinic on Monday, June 11, 2012.
Jones joined RPMH as a board-certified family physician in December 2011. Having worked in several communities primarily across Oklahoma and Texas, Jones has more than 26 years of experience treating patients.

One dog available for adoption

Sweetwater Animal Control currently has one dog available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a male mixed breed dog. According to Sweetwater’s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 131 calls for service, issued 28 citations and made eight arrests from June 10-12, 2012.

The SPD received 52, 911 calls.

Students perform solos during recital

Piano and guitar students of Noreen Carson performed solos during the annual Spring Awards Recitals on Sunday, May 27 in the First Baptist sanctuary. Students were presented awards in recognition of their accomplishments throughout the 2011-2012 school year.

On June 8, 2012, the 2011 Texas Law Enforcement Achievement Awards were presented at the Texas Capitol in Austin. The ceremony was conducted by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE).
CLEAT would like to congratulate the winners for their dedicated and heroic service to the citizens of Texas. "We would like to give special recognition to our members from Amarillo, Kilgore, Lancaster and Snyder who received awards."
